"What? No way!" Bella exclaimed in surprise. "I mean, it's just...hard to picture you being that way." She couldn't picture Dorothea ever acting like that. But like Zuko, it looked like there was more beneath the surface, and a slightly troubled past to boot. But while Zuko hid his past behind stern, cold gazes, Dorotha seemed to hide hers with a smile. You could never tell what was going on with a person just by looking at them, she supposed.

“I was a real bitch,” Dorothea said with a self deprecating laugh. At the time, she had just said she was just passionate. It was only when she had seen genuine hurt in another actor’s eyes from a comment that she had callously made that had her change her tune. Literally. “I would have considered you competition from your own set of lovely pipes. Of course, that’s not me now.” Instead, she wanted to support fellow theatre kids, not push them down.

Bella still found it hard to imagine, but the theater world could make people into assholes sometimes. It was pretty cutthroat. The idea of Dorothea seeing her as competition if she hadn't changed, she wasn't sure what to think about that. Would someone have considered one of them better than the other? A lot of it was a matter of opinion. Any art was subjective in that way. "I'm glad you don't," she said. "I would have been a total pushover." Dorothea probably could have run her over if she wanted. Bella was confident on stage, not so much in a lot of other areas in her life.

Dorothea smiled ruefully and plucked another orchid from the ground. She played with the delicate petals with a soft smile. That was one thing that Bella had that she could never compete with; the ability to make people feel safe and content in nature. "You know, my theatre troupe would kill to have your flowers in their celebration bouquets. You get the colors just right." With a playful glint in her eyes, she said teasingly, "or maybe, just maybe, Zuko might gift you with flowers you've never grown?" Inspirred, she sat down with a wie grin on her face, sitting like a girl a a sleepover. "So, tell me; what'd be your ideal date with Zuko?"

Bella smiled a little at Dorothea's praise. "Nah, I just grow them. My mom's the one who knows how to put bouquets together, like which flowers go well together and stuff." She'd made a pretty good business doing that kind of thing: bouquets, gardening supplies, pots filled with all kinds of plants that people could take home to their garden. It was enough that she'd done okay supporting Bella and Utena after their dad had left. The idea of Zuko finding something new though made her feel a little excited. She could grow almost anything as long as there was dirt or soil nearby, but there were a lot of plants out there that she had no idea about, that she probably didn't even know existed. Dorotha asked about her ideal date and while Bella had to admit the carnival near the beach had been fun, she wasn't sure if she could count it as a date. She thought for a moment before replying. "Something quiet, I think. A walk through the woods or on the beach, and we could just talk about everything or nothing, if we wanted." Silence with Zuko might have felt awkward at first, but Bella found it comfortable now. "What about you?" she asked Dorothea, figuring her answer would probably be a bit different.

“Oh, I’m not really into the fancy stuff, despite what people think,” Dorothea answered. Sure her time was very posh spice, but she also had one foot rooted firmly in reality. While guys that came from money could be nice, she wasn’t about to flirt with a rich someone endlessly just to become a sugar baby. “The classic ‘dinner and a movie’ is my ideal date. Everyone gets what they want out of it, so win win.” Sure it wasn’t as whimiscal as Bella’s nature walk date idea, but at least they could agree on silence being golden.

"Hey, it's a classic for a reason," Bella said with a laugh. "Like, I know the whole 'dozen red roses' bouquet is a little cliche, but I'd love something like that." Sure, Bella could grow her own if she wanted, but it was the thought behind them that counted. It just became more special when it was a gift.

Dorothea couldn’t help but laugh at the irony. A girl who could make a dozen rises grow with just a snap still wanted them to be given as a romantic gesture. But, are supposed it was much like her, the attention starved theatre kid, wanting to see actors on screen. “Zuko would look quite handsome giving you those?@ she said with a teasing wink. Before she could comment anymore, her phone buzzed. Insistently. Oh, she hated having to get pulled away. Sure, she and Bella were roommates now, but it wasn’t like girl time was every night.

Now that Dorothea mentioned it, Zuko probably would look good with roses. The image of that made Bella smile. Dorothea's phone buzzed though and it looked like she had to take off. "Guess we'll have to check back in with each other later for a crush update," she joked. Talking to Dorothea about it had made her feel a little better though. Telling Zuko how she felt was probably a "when" not an "if" at this point. The only question lay in how she would do it. Blurting it out at some random time didn't sound like the best way to go about it. But she knew if she put it off forever, she'd probably start thinking about it too hard and get anxious.

Dorothea gave Bella a look that was both apologetic and hopeful. Yes! She would 100% keep Bella in the loop about things with Spike. And should Zuko try anything to hurt her precious Bells...well, she knew just the siren song to get him to regret his choice. All she had to do was practice what she preached and give Spike a hint that maybe, just maybe, she liked him a bit more than a friend. It would be different than her usual flirts. "I'll see you in class, Bella! Or the dorm dependiing!" She took the call - her producer with a project pitch - and wandered away from the ground, the orchid still in her hand. ((End thread))
