The stone giant’s eyes went dark, and that was when Riku got the feeling if there was anything holding the creature together, it was either long gone or dormant. Either way, they had taken down a monster with little to no collateral damage. Maybe some work for the parks and rec department, but nothing that would be a waste of tax payer dollars.
The swordswoman wasted no time cutting the head clean in half. Riku gave her a low, impressed whistle. Blades that were sharp enough to cut through stone were not cheap, and she was handling it with so much ease. Bella was turning the legs to dust via root pressure, which left the torso and the arms.
Well, might as well make the most of it. Black energy covered the torso and he balanced it in the air before dropping it a safe distance away, where it broke up into smaller rocks.
“Well this is one way to make a community zen garden,” he quipped.

It looked like things were finally okay. Utena wiped the sweat from her brow, feeling very pleased with herself. "You almost done there, Bella?" she called.
"Just about," her sister replied before breaking up the last bit of the stone giant. Even if he could put himself back together, there was no way he could now. He was for sure gone.
The boy made a joke about the park looking like a zen garden now and Utena laughed a little. "Not sure how long the peace and quiet would last though," she replied. "Those were some cool moves you pulled off there. Where'd you learn to do stuff like that?" Was this guy at Hero High? Or maybe he was self taught or something. Even if some kids with powers didn't become superheroes, they could still learn how to use them to defend themselves.

With just a few more crushing from the three of them, the only thing left of the stone beast were a few measly pebbles. Nothing to be afraid of anymore. The swordswoman approached him, laughing at his quip. When she asked about his powers, Riku's smile faltered. He looked down at his hands. He had learned the shadow stuff when he was a kid in the orphanage. He still remembered how freaked out everyone was when the dark tendrils popped out of his hands when he was mad, including himself. "Honestly? I just kind of always had the skill. I don't know how I got them, I just did."

The boy seemed to go a little quiet. Had Utena asked a sensitive question? He seemed a little downcast in his answer. Maybe some encouragement would perk him up. "Well, it sure came in handy today," she said. "If it wasn't for you, I'd probably still be smacking that thing like a game of whack-a-mole."
"What even was that thing?" Belle asked, looking around at all the pieces. "It definitely wasn't natural."
"Maybe some mad scientist's experiments got out of hand," Utena answered. "Remember when the same thing happened with a bunch of robots a few years back?"
Utena nodded. She remembered that being all over the news. Escaped experiments had to be dealt with every once in a while.
"So, what's your name?" Utena asked the boy. "I'm Utena and this is my sister Bella."

Riku's was able to get the smile back as the swordswoman said his powers came in handy for the fight. He'd take a thank you. After all, didn't heroes have to be humble in the long run? It was very much a job well done. "Don't sell yourself short. You're pretty good with that sword. If that creep hadn't been stone, he'd be down hard." The compliments would wait as Bella contemplated what exactly the thing they tore apart was. The only theory that her possible relative came up with was a runaway experiment. Riku remembered seeing that story all over the news. Compared to some of the uglier experiments, the stone giant was probably the least threatening. A threat, still, but easier to take care of.
The swordswoman introduced herself as Utena. Bella was her sister. Oh, okay, so he was right in his first assumption. "I'm Riku," he introduced himself. "Got to say, fighting an escaped stoneman was not on my afternoon plans, but hey."

"Same," Utena agreed. But hey, at least things had turned out okay. And Riku seemed like an interesting guy. She turned her head though as a sound caught her attention: sirens wailing. Bella turned, hearing them too.
"Looks like the police are on the scene," Utena said. "And I'm guessing some superheroes will be with them."
"You don't think we'll get in trouble for being reckless or something, do you?" Bella asked, assuming the worst. Students had tried to take down monsters and villains themselves in the past, and they usually ended up getting hurt due to their lack of experience. They could get a very stern lecture of a teacher caught wind of it.
"Doubt it. What were we supposed to do, stand by and do nothing?" Utena asked. "Besides, I think we went about it very logically." At least, as logically as they could with an out-of-nowhere situation like this. but Utena felt like they handled things pretty well.

"Maybe when we say we're students, the worst we can get is a slap on the wrist. And even with that, the only thing we'll get in trouble for is probably collateral damage." Their powers combined had turned a good section of the park into a mess. No one had gotten hurt, at least, not that Riku knew. The last thing he had wanted was to hurt a kid. That was probably the worst thing he, Utena, and Bella could have done. But all he saw were dented pieces of metal, rocks, and ripped up plants.

"See? We'll be fine," Utena said, patting Bella's shoulder reassuringly. Although Riku being a fellow student caught her attention. She'd have to keep an eye on campus for him. He was an interesting guy. "And at the very least, we'll have an interesting story to tell at class tomorrow."
"Yeah, there is that," Bella agreed. Although she'd probably leave that to Utena. Her sister knew how to tell a good story and keep people's interest.

"Ah yes, show and tell but with monster bits. Always a fun time." At least this monster bits weren't gooey. Or the part in question wasn't something that belonged in a science lab or something. So Utena and Bella were fellow students. He'd make sure to keep an eye on them. They were also the first girls he had met, since his only interactions had been with the other guys in the male dorms and his new friend slash roommate Caspar. Nice to know the school wasn't going to be a sausage fest like it had been a few years. Just as he was about to ask them if they were doing anything, his phone buzzed. The alarm just said "Meditation if distracted." Looks like he'd have to find a new quiet place. "Whoops. Looks like I'm scheduled for something. I'll see you ladies around campus?" ((You got it )

"Mm-hmm, definitely," Utena replied, and Bella nodded in agreemente. Fighting a giant monster hadn't been on her list of ways to meet people, but if you were a superhero, or even one in training, sometimes unexpected things happened. The police might want to ask a few questions, but Utena felt like she could answer anything they wanted to know. Although knowing them, they'd probably be more concerned with how this cinderblock thing even got out in the first place. Maybe that was a mystery that would never be solved. But Utena could live with that. If this whole thing got her and Bella a new friend, maybe it wasn't a totally bad thing.
((End.))
