"Maybe," Caspar sighed, "Think we could pick the class? I could really use it in Professor Huesos' class."
Education wasn't his thing. On top of hero classes, they had to take basic education. Can't have dumb heroes. Still, he loathed the topics. He hated studying. He would much rather punch things. It was easier that way. Much less thinking involved. Like his fight with the Cinderblock. Granted, he had been worried the whole fight. That he had to keep the Cinderblock's attention on him. So maybe more thinking than he first thought.

"It's always worth asking. It wouldn't surprise me if our teachers ended up knowing about all of this."
If anything, he was surprised that teachers didn't make big announcements about it. Was it some kind of elaborate scheme to make sure the kids weren't just using their powers to goof around or do anything NOT academic? Tough to say. He didn't want to be skeptical of his higher ups, but now he was. Some habits never really broke, he guessed.

"Yeah, I'm surprised too. We're not really supposed to be doing super hero stuff until after we graduate..."
Maria might have been able to shield them, but for how long? She was a brave girl, but even she had to have limits. He supposed the reason the whole school hadn't been taken to task was because they were in the right place at the right time to protect civilians. He vaguely remembered a mom, with three kids, a balding guy with a cable knit sweater and the barista. None of them looked combat ready.

"Eh, I'll take experience wherever I can get it. I'm just glad no one was hurt."
Collateral damage was predictable whenever supers were called to action, so he didn't mind the small damages that were caused. A broken spine could take longer to heal than a park bench getting repaired. He pushed away his punch tray and began drawing random patterns in the remains of the sauce. He had also been in relatively good control of his shadows, so there was another win. But he knew the three worse days of his powers acting up were coming, and he didn't want anyoen to get dragged into his personal mess.

"I got hurt!" Caspar protested, "But that Maria girl healed me as fast as the injuries came!"
It was because of her he hadn't ended up with anything worse than bruising. Because he had insisted she tend to anyone else who had gotten hurt in the crosshairs. Still, it was because of her he was able to finish that fight. He was still amazed by her powers. He could only break stuff with his powers. Which was useful in fights like that last one, but not in day to day life.

Riku gave a low, impressed whistle. Not too many healers were in this school. Most people came here with offensive powers like he had. True, the shadows could also be defensive, but his answer to "healing" was more 'push shadows of out of whack body parts into place which could do more harm than good.' "Talk about being in the right place at the right time."

"Just another reason why this school is freaking awesome," Caspar said. "All these people with their powers!"
He couldn't remember many kids at his last school even having powers. Nothing as substantial as darkness or healing abilities. Minor things like only being able to levitate objects smaller than a soda can. Or being able to use static electricity to charge phones. While handy, not exactly 'battling super villains' type powers.

“Right?”
But amid the agreement, the shrill chime of the bell cut him off. Lunch was over that quickly? Geez. He picked up his trash before anyone could shout out about not cleaning up and tosses the remains of his food away. Next class was weapons. It was one of his favorites, only because he liked the feel of the shadow along the blade. Long, simple and easy to control. He’d stop by his locker to get it out before too many people crowded.
“Welp, see you back in the room, Caspar.”
