Dorothea nodded and pulled out her phone. After a few scrolls, she found the video and song that she enjoyed from her mom's time on stage. It wasn't an official recording from a show so she didn't get in trouble. It was just her mom strutting on a half-constructed set in just a cozy rehearsal outfit singing 'Funny Girl'. "She's on tour right now with a company. Closest she'll get to Broadway." youtube.com/clip/Ugkx0SvInZvZft_mrRFqPAPnwWmtCk29XR1c

Bella watched with interest. Dorothea's mom certainly had a strong singing voice, and personality too. If Dorothea was half as good as her, the glee club would probably welcome her with open arms. "Wow. That's amazing,' she said. Performing all the time with a touring company probably wasn't easy. You were constantly on the move and had to make sure your voice didn't give out. Bella admired anyone who could pull it off well.

Dorothea’s smile was wistful as she nodded in agreement. Her green eyes took on a hue. “We keep in touch. She was supportive of me coming here. Sad to see me go, but she wanted me to be happy.” She put her phone away and looked at Bella. “Music and performing is kind of my way to keeping connected to her.”

So Dorothea's mom wasn't a superhero. Bella could relate to that. "Same with my mom. She runs a plant shop, being a superhero had never been her thing. But she's really encouraged me and my sister to go for it if we wanted to." Bella sometimes Utena was a bit further along than she was when it came to being a hero, but she still had that drive to do what it took to stop the bad guys and keep people safe. And she'd always been assured that there were plenty of introverted superheroes like her. Bella just wished she could get over her shyness a little more.

“At least you have a sister. I’m an only child.” Bella definitely had a life that Dorothea would have enjoyed. While she did love the stage life and singing with her mother, she did crave just a bit of staying in one place. Her mom having a job outside of simply using her voice and acting skills while Dorothea used her voice to seduce robbers away from banks and into prison. Along with that simplicity was a desire for siblings, a dream that was dashed with the super divorce.

"Believe me, that comes with its own aches and pains," Bella said. "I love my sister, but she can be a little...overprotective." She knew why Utena acted that way. Bella had been bullied a lot as a kid, and Utena had had to step in as her defender. And Bella knew she could still be meek sometimes. But she wanted to branch out, strike out on her own, get better through her own hard work and grit. If she wanted to be a superhero, she had to rely on herself. Utena wasn't always going to be around to protect her.

Dorothea giggled. Having been in a production of Little Women and being forced to play little sister to several actresses did put her in the mindset Bella was talking about. Older siblings meant well, but it was rather stifling having them boss you around or ensure that you were taken care of even if you weren’t. “That would get pretty tiresome. Does your sister go here, too?”

Bella nodded. "Yeah. She's the more athletic type, like sword fighting and basketball and stuff. It's weird. We're twins, but we turned out so different." In some ways, Bella wished she was more like her sister, confident and strong. But Utena had also said before that she sometimes wished she could be more patient like Bella was and feel more comfortable with traditionally girly things, like dresses or make up.

Dorothea always found the depiction of twins in stories to be unusual because they were either one of two things; the same person or the exact opposites of one another. Bella’s description of her sister was leaning towards the latter, but at least it wasn’t too extreme of a shift. Siblings some times tended to like one thing the other didn’t but that was fine. It was, dare she say it, normal. “Closest sport you’ll see me to is stage combat. I took fencing for some Shakespeare training, but that’s about as close as I’ll get. Sportsball just isn’t my thing.”

Belle laughed a little. "Same. I'm not that coordinated," she said. If someone threw a ball in her direction, her first reaction was to shriek and duck rather than try to catch it. She was a little better at dancing, which she felt like was a bit different. If you weren't trying to pull off some fancy move, the worst you could get was getting your toes stepped on.

Dorothea shared the small laugh with Bella. It was nice to know that in this glee club, there was already someone she had so much in common with. No one had come in to announce the start of auditions, and she was starting to feel a teensy bit antsy. “I guess since no one else is here, we can just…have our own singalong.” She set down her music binder and pulled out her phone, swiping through her saved accompanying tracks until she found the one for her planned audition song. “Normally, this is a no no at most auditions, but I think glee club is an exception.” She pressed play on the track and stepped center stage, her green eyes focused on the empty seats in front of her before singing;
Think of me. Think of me fondly when we say goodbye. Remember me, every so often, promise me you’ll try On that day, that not so distant day, when you are far away and free If you ever find a moment, spare a thought for me.

Bella got excited at the idea of that. She was eager to hear Dorothea sing after hearing so much about her family and background. She instantly recognized the song from the first few notes. Phantom of the Opera was one of her favorite musicals. And honestly, after hearing Dorothea sing, Bella felt like she could be a perfect Christine. Her voice sounded so mature and graceful. She smiled, although underneath the music, she thought she heard voices outside the door.
"How many times do I have to say sorry? I could have sworn the flyer said it was in the gym."
"Ugh, why the heck would they have a glee interest meeting in the gym? There's no stage in there."
"I think we might be late guys. I already hear singing."
"Crap, do you think they started without us?"
Bella looked towards the door. Could more people have finally arrived?

As Dorothea finished her singing, there were noises getting closer and louder. As she turned off the music, she made out a possible argument about people accidentally going to the gym for practice as opposed to the auditorium. Disorganization must have been a thing. "well, looks like the rest of the gang is here." Did her voice summon some of the male participants? Now she was feeling sheepish about it all. aShe tucked her phone into her pocket and stole a look alongside Bella.

Bella smiled. "See? I knew we wouldn't be the only people interested," she said as the doors opened. It revealed a small group of kids, maybe four or five. Still, the more the merrier.
"Uh, is this where the glee club thing is?" asked one boy.
"Yes, yes it is!" a voice called from the hall, which belonged to a girl who scurried in. "Sorry, got a bit behind. I'm the organizer. It's nice to see people interested." She grinned.
"Maybe we'll actually have a glee club after all," Bella commented to Dorothea. Sure, the group was small, but you didn't need a whole lot of people to get started.
((Want to wrap things up here?))

((Sure Oh, good. There were girls in the group that had been outside and not just at boys. It was typical for more girls to join, but a few boys piping in wasn’t to be unexpected. Dorothea waved to the group with a big smile, looking over at Bella with a happy beam. At least she had one friend in this group of people. “A small club is better than no club at all” She waved at the girl who introduced herself as the organizer. “I guess we got a bit overexcited and came in early. We can’t wait to start singing with you guys.” And she meant it. At the bottom of her heart. Even if her voice was hypnotic, she could at least find backup in this small cluster.
