"Oh wow, you got to see her in action?" Utena asked, curious. She'd met Ruby at the bookstore not too long ago and when she'd described her powers and that her own mom had been a superhero, Utena had wanted to see what she could do. Super speed from her side and fire power from Zuko sounded like a deadly combination, like when Riku's shadows and Bella's plants had combined.
Bella sighed in relief. "That's good," she said. Utena had mentioned Ruby to her before, and that she was a lover of books, particularly the comic variety.

Zuko nodded. “I don’t think I’ve seen super speed quite like hers. The only sign of where she is at a time is a swirl of rose petals. Maybe she could double as an extra in an air freshener commercial.” Joking aside, he was impressed with the redhead’s speed. Not to mention her level headed thinking. Where’s she get those skills? Usually that was something from Mr. Kent’s class. As Bella showed relief for his safety, he felt like he wanted the floor to eat him. Having people be concerned for him was, well, it was new. “I’m glad you guys are okay, too.” He didn’t know Utena well, but she was Bella’s sister. No one should be harmed that was close to her.

Utena snickered. "Nothing wrong with having a back-up plan in case being a superhero doesn't work out, I suppose," she joked. She doubted that would happen to her, but she knew it would probably happen to some students her age. Just like some kids changed majors in college, some quit the path of becoming a superhero and switched to something else that was more to their liking.
"I hate to think what would have happened if those things had shown up on campus," Bella said, shuddering at the thought. It probably would have caused major pandemonium.
"Oh please, I bet they would have been smashed within minutes," Utena said confidently. "Anybody who tries to mess with a school full of superheroes and sidekicks probably has a death wish. Or they're just dumb."
"That doesn't mean somebody won't try," Utena said gently. There had been a few attempts throughout the school's history, mainly by supervillains that were a bit overconfident. But they'd been thwarted each time. Trying to go up against a place like this was like trying to attack the White House or any other major political buidling. It would be tough to pull off.

"Makes you wonder if there ever was a similar incident at the school once."
Zuko was musing this half to himself, and half to Utena and Bella. If monsters like the Cinderblock had gotten onto the ground before, then that meant that security was tighter. No students sneaking out pst a curfew. If that was something in place, the teachers weren't exactly reinforcing it. Did the teachers double as security guards since some of them had been supers in the past?

"Maybe not to that extreme, but people love to spread rumors about powers going wrong or experiments getting out of control in the science lab," Utena said. "People swear the permanently smoky smell from the chemistry classroom is 'cause someone blew it up once and they were never able to get rid of the smell."
"Or if someone finds a crack in the walls of the gym, they say its the remnants of someone punching it too hard and the whole room almost falling apart," Bella added. Honestly, it was hard to tell what actually happened and what was just a rumor. All Utena and Bella knew for sure was what they had seen first hand.

Burned smell. Zuko could relate to that. His fire powers made things tricky to touch. His heat handling was getting better, and so far the only thing he had burned, besides the grass accidentally, was popcorn in the microwave. That wasn’t even his fault! He hadn’t even used his fire to pop it! It had taken a stupidly long amount of time for the smell to go away. As Utena and Bella shared the rumors whispered through the school, he sat back with a mouthful of lunch, which while still not the best, tasted a bit better with company around.

"But who knows? Maybe the rest of this year will be tame," Utena said. "You never know what's around the corner."
"We've got some interesting people around, that's for sure," Bella said before asking Zuko "Have you run into anybody else besides Ruby?" There were some nice people around, like Namine. But there were also the bullies too. And then there were students that were just crazy and liked to get throw wild parties and see what they could get away with. Bella had never been to one of those herself, the very idea of it made her anxiety shoot through the roof, but there was always talk.

“Honestly, you two and Ruby are the only ones I really talked to. I don’t really talk to people.”
It was ironic. He worked at a coffee shop where people came in every day. But usually, Zuko kept his conversations to a simple business transaction, and if he had, talk about whatever promotion was going on. Some people tried to make small talk, but he couldn’t exactly get out an answer or explain himself or his sometimes weird answer.

Utena glanced at Zuko. An antisocial type, huh? Well, she was used to that. She'd always been the more outgoing twin. But she saw Bella looking at Zuko a little sympathetically too. No doubt she was wondering if he was lonely or something. Even though she was quiet, she still tried to help someone if they were having a hard time.
"We'll introduce you to some people we know, see if you like them," Utena promised. "High school isn't so bad if you've got a couple of good friends." Bella nodded in agreement.

Now they were looking at him with just bewilderment and big puppy dog eyes. All he said he didn't talk much, not that he had a tragic backstory. Well, he did, but frankly they weren't quite at that level of trust just yet. Simply sitting with him was a start, aas was forgiving his fire powers, but it would take a bit more than that for him to fully open up. Even Ruby with her sandwich had made a crack.
"I guess that's not a bad idea," he said.

Zuko didn't exactly jump at the idea, but he was open to it. Bella was already thinking of possible people, while Utena hoped that the school had more chill, quiet events planned. If Zuko had dances and pep rallies as much as Bella did, dragging him to one to meet new people probably wouldn't be the best idea.
"Good," Utena said, smiling a little. "So, besides busting up giant cinderblock monsters, what else do you like to do for fun?"

“Uh…I..don’t really have time for fun. When I’m not in school, I work at the coffee joint. Or I’m practicing when I’m not at work.”
Fire took time and patience to control. He had already caused one major accident. Well, he thought he did. It took years and realizing the truth that it wasn’t his fault. While he liked Utena and Bella, he wasn’t ready to lay the truth on them. Or heck, express his hidden hobby of performing. A hobby he hadn’t thought about in years.

Ouch. Utena tried not to wince. No other friends and no hobbies? Either this guy had a sheltered upbringing or a not so great one. Maybe she would have to help with that too. "Come on man, you gotta live a little," she commented.
Bella gave her a light jab in the ribs with her elbow, making Utena give her a look. Bella agreed with the sentiment, to some extent, but maybe Zuko was still adjusting to things. He was a new student here. Bella hadn't exactly dived headfirst into extra curricular activities during her first year.

Zuko raised a brow. Last he met Bella, she seemed so quiet and to herself. Here she was elbowing her sister with an impressive jab. He appreciated the gesture. Utena meant well by saying he ought to live a little, and as much as he hated to admit it, she was probably right. But it could be worse. He could be unhealthily glued to a computer or phone.
“Here’s where I send the question back. What do you do for fun?”

Zuko asked the same question of them, which eased the tension a little. And Bella and Utena were always eager to talk about their hobbies.
"Oh, I love books," Bella replied. "I could read for hours. Outside of textbooks, that is. And music. There might be enough interest to get a glee club going for once." She'd even had the chance to make a new friend, which she always considered an accomplishment.
"I guess I like the occasional book, if it's not boring," Utena answered. "I like staying active though. Basketball's my favorite thing if I have energy to burn off." Running on the track was a close second, but basketball was fun with friends. And Utena was pretty decent at it.
