“Who are you considering on taking on your little field trip?” That had been one of Jack’s most nerve wracking times. While Pocahontas’ lessons were relatively safe and many kids she took went on to find success, his trips involved something that some students dread; actual human interaction with outside forces like commissioners. Jack’s mistrust of the police was something that he constantly worried about, especially since he hardly ever lost his nerve around students. However, that wasn’t the big issue. picking students was tricky. Upperclassmen tended to get first pick, which meant any first years that wanted to go we’re out of luck.

"Still thinking that over, but I was trying to get some students out to see what a city patrol is like," Pocahontas replied. "You know, keeping an eye on things, watching for signs of trouble. If we run into something major, they'll stay out of the line of fire and work on calling back-up." It was better to ease kids into these things rather than throw everything at them at once. God forbid a sidekick ends up encountering an army of robots or a Godzilla-size monster on their first day.

“I suppose it’s also good to gauge hero-sidekick pairings.” Some kids gelled well with others, while others ended up hating one another’s guts. He remembered when he went on a patrol mission like that. It had been where he had Maria. The only thing that had impressed her during their time checking on civilians had been when he had used his powers to decay a wall that took out am escaping band of criminals. “Clumsily elegant”, she had called it.

"Eh, even if groupings are a little tense, they'll graduate soon enough and get to be heroes on their own," Pocahontas replied. "Although teamwork with other heroes is always a welcome change." Sometimes, two heroes happened upon a crime scene at the same time, or more than one was called in if the situation demanded it. Pocahontas could handle herself, but sometimes it was nice to have another pair of hands to help out, or give a second opinion.

“Have any of our graduating ninos been called onto any scenes? It’d be nice to see a familiar face. Or maybe if you’re still in contact, ask if they can help. I know students listen with a peer model present.” He had done that with a graduate student in the past. The lesson had been easy on paper, but hard to execute in person; Study the scene of the crime, call another super for backup because of the factors, and compare notes. Needless to say, having an extra pair of hands that day had been helpful.

"I'll go through my contacts, call up some old students," Pocahontas promised. Although to be fair, brand new heroes liked to relish in their newfound independence and liked taking on cases and crimes themselves. Pocahontas had been much the same way when she'd first graduated. After all the training and schooling, it was thrilling to finally do what she'd wanted for a long time.

Jack gave an approving nod. Good. Finally nice to find faculty that took superhero training seriously as he did. Part of him wondered if maybe he should have done his assessment during Halloween. What was more appropriate for the spooky season than a murder mystery? Oh well. Next year then. Just then he saw several students tusseliing in a corner. With superpowered kids, horseplay could be dangerous. “We’ll, time to put on my teacher’s hat. Enjoy the rest of the party, Pocahontas.”

Pocahontas noticed the scuffle shortly after Jack did. He was probably able to handle it himself though. Being a permanent skeleton certainly had its perks, it made you look intimidating without putting in too much effort. "You too. Flaunt your look while you can," she said with a laugh. At least the rest of the party was going okay. If the students were having fun, then the staff had done their job, and Pocahontas could feel happy about that.
