"So long as they're happy, it doesn't bother me." Maybe it was waking up and realizing the last relationship he had wasn't healthy, but uko had always been keeping a sharp eye - his good one anyways - on couples. If anyone looked uncomfortable, he was more than eager to stand up for the party no matter the gender. True care was what made a relationship work, heck, romance didn't even have to be on the table. Sure, he wouldn't mind "the one", but it wasn't a top priority.

"Bet you've witnessed a couple of bad dates here though, am I right?" Bella asked. As much as she hoped things would go well for people, they usually had a story or two about a date going south for a variety of reasons. The guy paying wouldn't tip the waiter, the girl was looking for a sugar daddy instead of a real relationship, the list went on. Not that Bella had any dating experience. She was too shy, and any crushes she'd had when she was younger were swift and fleeting, nothing serious.

Zuko sighed. Not out of dismay, but disappointment. “Yeah. I’ve seen some bad dates here. I think the worst one was one I handled personally.” He still could hear the nervous laughter being cut off by the furious date. The girl had only accidentally spilled her iced drink reaching for the sugar. She laughed but he didn’t. “The guy was a douche. All that happened was an accident and he threw his iced latte in her face. I threw him out and let the girl stay in the bathroom.” And by throw out, it was a literal shove out of the door. Where that couple was, Zuko didn’t know. The only thing he did know was no one deserved that treatment.

"Jeez." People could be such jerks sometimes. Although the idea of Zuko tossing someone out was kind of funny to imagine. Bella had really only seem him as quiet and friendly, and she found herself wondering what he was like when he was fiery, literally or figuratively. "Sounds like you're a good guy to have around when things start going south," she commented. Bella appreciated people she felt safe around. They could be hard to come by sometimes, especially in high school.

Zuko was speechless. Literally. Bella had seen his fire, but that had been out of an accident. She had never seen the literal flames of fury, and they had almost come out during that one encounter. He was about to say something, but nothing was coming out. That was until he saw a barista walking out from behind the counter - the barista that was his visual cue to get back on the clock. He gave a dejected sigh. “Well, time to put those ‘good guy’ pants back on and brew some holiday cheer.” He stood up ever so slowly. Just a bit more time with a friend was all he was mentally asking for. “Oh, and, uh, thank you. For the chat and, well you get the idea.”

It looked like Zuko wanted to say something, but he had to get back to work. Bella gave a little sigh. This had been an interesting conversation. But she should probably be heading back to campus. She had homework that was calling her name and those essays weren't going to write themselves. "You're welcome," she said, giving a little smile. "Hope you survive the rush."
