Pocahontas breathed in, then out. Some of these kids were going out on patrol for the first time and she had to appear confident. She was responsible for them, after all. And they were looking to her for guidance and answers. She was already decked out in her superhero gear, complete with a wind resistant suit, sturdy boots, and a cape. She'd been wearing it ever since she had taken the superhero name "Gale." Some kids looked excited to be in their sidekick get-up, others a little nervous. At the moment, they were perched on the roof of a building, not the highest in the city, but still high enough to get a good look around.
"Okay everyone, listen up," she said. "Patrols may seem like dull work, but they're important for spotting trouble before it happens. Keep your eyes peeled and stay vigilant."
Bella gave a little nod, not sure if she wanted something exciting to happen, or nothing at all. This was her first time doing something like this and Utena wasn't by her side to comfort her. Her superhero look had been fun to pick out though. Her outfit was mainly green, although she did have some touches of pink here and there. She wore a long-sleeved shirt, a skirt with long enough slits up the sides to still move around in comfortably, and leggings underneath. For now, her sidekick name was "Flora" but she wasn't sure if she would stick with it, which was normal. Some people went through a couple of superhero names before finding one that felt right.

“Yes, ma’am.”
Being in a patrol group had given Zuko a strange sense of nostalgia. It was a deep deep subconscious thought, but there had been a time before he was old enough to be left alone that Cinder would ask him to keep watch for “the bad guys.” Of course, those rose tinted frames were cracked now. But on the plus size, the super outfit was a fun way to give his mom the middle finger. He had doned a dark red flame retardant coverall, covered by a black vest with a bronze lining and belt, which matched the black and bronze boots. Dark red and gold had been her colors before, so now he could take that away from her. Everyone else had apparently gotten ideas for names, but Zuko didn’t have one quite yet, though his boss had jokingly called him ‘Dragon’ several times, and it was starting to grow on him. He shook his head to regain focus. Last time he was here, a Cinderblock had tried to crush him. A part of him felt comfort that Ruby and Bella had also been picked by Professor Locklear for the mission. Having people that he was starting to trust made it less awkward.

Ruby felt particularly badass as she stood with her red cloak fluttering in the wind. She gripped Crescent Rose tightly. The weight of her scythe was as comforting as a security blanket for a child. In fact, it was all she could do from not doing a little happy dance in the street. Granted, this was a routine patrol. Every class did this at one point or another. She was just glad that she was among the first students to do it this semester.
"And what do we do if we do see anything out of the ordinary?" she asked.
"We beat some heads in!" Caspar replied.
He punched into his gloved hand. A smirk lining his features. He was the 'act first, questions later' type after all. He knew it wasn't the best course of action, but he just couldn't help himself. If he saw something happening and he knew it was wrong, he had to act upon it immediately.

Pocahontas chuckled a little at Caspar's response. "That is how those encounters tend to end up. But it's always important to assess the situation first. And we may not even run into anything today. Most patrols are pretty quiet-"
At that moment, there was a loud crash. Pocahontas turned to see a cloud of smoke not too far away, followed by a deep roar and people screaming.
"Oh, the universe just loves to prove me wrong," she muttered. Of course a monster would show up right when she was taking some kids out. But, with any luck, this would turn into a great learning experience for them. And she was pretty sure at least one or two of them were involved in the Cinderblock incident a few months back.
"What was that?" Bella asked, her eyes big with worry.
"We'll find out soon enough," Pocahontas replied. "Let's go. And be sure to stay together." Leading the group, she launched herself into the air with a blast of wind. The gust was enough to get her to the next building, and after that, it was rinse and repeat.
Bella let out a breath. She couldn't freeze up on her first time on patrol. Besides, now was the perfect time to test out a new technique she'd been practicing. Taking a couple of seeds from her pocket, she focused her powers until thick, strong vines started growing out of them. Grabbing one, she swung onto the next building, like a spider spinning a web.

Of course there was a “ask questions later” guy in the group. But the response was pretty funny. He looked out at one section of the fountain plaza. Nothing so far. Just people minding their own business. A girl went by with a cluster of dogs. Some guy nearly bumped into a civilian because he was invested in a phone call. Maybe Professor Locklear was right. It would be a quiet day. Then he could get to Professor Byleth’s and…
The peaceful thoughts were interrupted by a roar.
Bella asked what had happened. The fear in her blue gray eyes made Zuko want to grab her and run to the safest place to wait out the danger. But no, they were here to fight the threat. Funny how last time he was here, a monster attacked as well.
The group was already off, and Zuko felt nervous. His mother was a natural at using her fire as propulsion, but he couldn’t create strong enough torrents. He hopped onto the lip of the fountain as Bella took off, counter to three, and leapt while thrusting a fist downward. The fire sputtered before finally he felt the push forward that sent him after the group. The flames wouldn’t last long, but he was able to land on a building and leapt and threw fire backwards again. At least it worked.

"I'll scout ahead!" Ruby said.
She dashed off, leaving a trail of rose petals behind her that gently drifted away. She ran ahead until she was atop a building, overlooking the chaos spread out before them. She tightly gripped Crescent Rose in her hands. Sure, she had faced the cinderblock not too long ago, but this? This was something else entirely. She wasn't sure how to fight this. She looked down, spotting her group of heroes behind her.
"Wait up!" Caspar roared.
He raced behind the speedster. Nowhere near as fast. Nor as stealthy. The heavier armored bits of his superhero suit clinked and clanged and made a lot of noise. Bystanders jumped out of his way as he clomped through the streets with the elegance of a raging bull.

The students kept up well, especially Ruby. But her power was super-speed after all, so maybe Pocahontas couldn't be too surprised. The screams of people were getting a bit louder. Pocahontas turned to her students. "Let's get a little closer. The sooner we find out what's out there, the-" Pocahontas was cut off by another roar, and suddenly the cause of all the commotion reared its ugly head. For lack of a better word, it was a hydra. It was large, purple, scary, and seemed to have very sharp teeth and claws. It seemed to get a kick out of swinging it's head around, knocking into buildings. And thanks to its long neck, it had a pretty long reach.
"Of course I get this when I'm training students," Pocahontas muttered. Any full fledged heroes would probably be heading towards this location now. But until they got here, it was up to Pocahontas and the students to keep this thing at bay.
"Priority one," she said. "Get people to safety and don't let this hydra wander off. Once everyone's out of the way, we can figure out how to deal with it." Almost as if it had heard her, the hydra turned in Pocahontas's direction and roared again. Pocahontas responded with a blast of air to its face, sending it stumbling backwards.
Bella watched in amazement. How was Ms. Locklear able to spring to action so fast? It was like she already had a plan before this hydra even showed up. But, her orders were clear, and Bella had to spring into action too. The hydra stumbled into another building, causing a large piece of concrete to start falling. Bella gasped when she saw a little kid right under it. Without even thinking, she swung down and grabbed him before the concrete could crush him. His mother found them seconds later, apparently trying to fight through the crowds to get to him. "Get as far away as you can, we'll take care of the rest," Bella promised. The mother nodded before hurrying off with her son, holding onto him more tightly this time.

The cause of the screaming came up as the group crested the next section of buildings. Zuko had never seen a creature like the one stomping around. It had the head and neck of a snake. If it got too wriggly, it would spell trouble. Professor Locklear said the top priority was the people. He felt inclined to disagree. Ruby and him had stopped Cinderblock. But then again, this was a larger group, and debating would only be wasting time. As the creature was forced back by Professor Locklear’s wind, he saw rubble raining. Bella jumped off to rescue a family from a concrete slab, and Zuko looked at the damaged building as the creature peeled away. The beast’s neck was dangerous. Who knew how many people were hurt if it retaliated using that? Through the damage, he saw people staring in terror. He propelled over and just before a rock could crush him, he punched a thrust of fire. The concrete turned into small pebbles that rained down. He looked into the shattered glass windows and faced the citizens in the building. “Get to the lowest levels and stay down there until this is over. If you have friends or other businesses, call them and tell them what I told you.” Geez he hoped he came off sounding friendly and not demanding.

Determination blazed through Ruby. She couldn't hear Pocahontas, seeing as she was atop a building, but she knew what she had to do. With a flick of her wrist, her scythe shifted from the blade position into that of a sniper rifle. She took aim and shot the Hydra in the head, aiming more specifically for its jaw. The shot rang out and the beast yowled when it was struck. Ruby then moved to the next rooftop to line up her next shot. She could provide cover for the rest of her team and any fleeing civilians.
Caspar went on the defensive. Rubble fell from above and he used a heavy shield to knock it aside. It weighed next to nothing to him, but the more challenging aspect of it, was making sure that the debris he knocked aside didn't hurt fleeing civilians. He stood firm as he made his way onto the 'battlefield' so to speak. A steady march, knocking rocks aside and when he had to, freeing people from where they were cornered by the debris.

If any of the students felt fear, they didn't show it. They sprang into action, either getting people to safety or attacking the hydra just enough to keep it in place. It looked like the coast was clear for now. Pocahontas looked up at the hydra. How could they take this thing down? Then she heard a loud bang and turned her head. It was Ruby, her scythe turned into a sniper rifle. She got an idea.
"Everyone, keep the hydra in one place, don't let it move," she ordered. Then she looked up at Ruby again. "Ruby, when you get a clear shot, go for its head!" she called. Beheading the thing was probably the fastest way to deal with it. Almost as if hearing her plants, the hydra lunged forward with its sharp teeth, but Pocahontas blew it back with a gust of wind.
It was like the cinderblock all over again, in Bella's eyes. Keep it in place while someone else went in to deal some damage, or with any luck, the final blow. At least this time, she knew what to do. Her hands pressed against the gravel road, struggling to pull up whatever plant life was buried beneath. "Come on, come on," she muttered. Suddenly, roots sprang up, breaking the concrete and going for the hydra's legs. It was strong though, and it seemed like every time Bella almost had it pinned down, it would break free.

Through the broken glass, Zuko saw the reflection of the monster get hit by a clean shot from Ruby. Of course she’d be the one to start aiming and firing. But she’s be crazy going up close and risking ending up in the belly of the beast. He looked back once more and saw the building empty. He clumsily show himself across the way, kicking himself for not bringing his swords. Those would have been incredibly useful if he couldn’t get enough fire. As Professor Locklear shot air in the monster’s face and it took the bait, Bella tried summoning plants to trip it up. Unfortunately, the big and muscular legs snapped away every root. A huge hunk landed at Zuko’s foot, and he got an idea. He picked it up, set the tip aflame, and ran out towards the creature, using his other hand to direct a fireball at the side of its very low jaw.
“Over here, ugly!”
The creature whipped its snakelike neck in his direction as the fire fizzled, leaving behind only a tiny wisp of smoke. It hadn’t burned but it was definitely mad. It snapped its head towards Zuko, chomping twice but missed as he avoided its large jaws. After bite two, Zuko swiped at it with his burning root. But he couldn’t celebrate long because as the beast reeled back from the hit, the root was reduced to ash. He only had time to roll away as it came back with jaws open…and rather than a tasty superhero, it got its jaws deep into the asphalt.
“Ruby, get him while’s he’s down!”

Ruby blurred into motion in order to get into a good position for a snipe shot at the beast. She told herself it was like of the levels in her favorite video game, where she had to slay the monster to save the town. It was her first time attempting to kill a monster. She pushed down that guilt and took aim, struggling to get the proper shot. Petals flew around her as she tried to get another position. It was hard because the darned thing was moving so much!
"Just stay still already!" she hissed.
Caspar charged forward in a rustle of heavy armor. He took his heavy shield and smashed it across the Hydra's face, crushing its jaw further and shattering the asphalt. As it tried to lunge to bite him, he gave it an uppercut underneath the chin, sending its head up.
Ruby saw her shot and took it. The bang rang out across the plaza.

Everyone moved in fast, trying to keep the hydra in one place. Pocahontas had to admit, they were pretty creative in using their powers. Caspar especially delivered a hard blow to the hydra's head. It stumbled on its feet. Bella saw Ruby struggling to hit it. Maybe she could still help. Using more of her seeds, she made vines spring out and wrap around the hydra's neck. Pocahontas saw how tight the grip was. Anymore pressure and the thing's head would pop right off. And it did, in a way. Ruby's shot was enough to blow the head off.
"Watch out for hydra guts!" Pocahontas called, jumping out of the way as icky green slime splattered around them.
Bella looked up in amazement. Had they done it? That wasn't too hard. But it looked the hydra wasn't done yet. She saw it started to twitch, then its legs started moving a bit.
"Uh, Ms. Locklear?" Bella said, pointing.
Pocahontas turned. Was the hydra somehow still alive? Could it survive without its head? But that wasn't exactly the case. It stood up, something forming at the base of where its head used to be. Then, horrifyingly, three heads spring up, and they looked ready to kill.
"Move!" Pocahontas yelled, backflipping out of the way of one of the head's snapping jaws. It turned its attention towards Bella, who pulled herself together just in time and used a vine to swing up on top of a streetlight and out of harms way.

Zuko continued peppering fire at the big bad, hoping that it could keeps its attention on him as opposed to lighter snacks. Bella started tying up more vines, and Ruby got a perfectly clean shot. The body went one way, the head the other. Professor Locklear called out to avoid hydra guts - Hydra, that’s what they were fighting - and he rolled away just in time to avoid a plop of green goo. But that wasn’t the worst part. The worst part? The smell.
He gagged as the odor hit his nose. That wasn’t going away any time soon. But just as he was recollecting himself, another nightmare appeared. The hydra sprouted three heads in a gruesome manner, all equally ugly. A head snapped at him and he quickly dodged, tossing a fiery punch at its eye.

Pocahontas leaped and dodged using blasts of air, trying to think on her feet. If this thing was going to grow back a new head every time they cut one off, how could they kill it? Restraining it might have been an option if she had more fully trained heroes to help. But who knew when they would get here. And tiring it out would take too long, it would cause major destruction before then.
"Ugh, how do we take this thing down?" she grumbled as she dodged the hydra's claws.
Suddenly, something came to Bella's mind. "Wait, this is just like the Greek myth with Hercules!" she exclaimed. "He fought a hydra like this too. Every time he cut off a head, another grew back."
"How did he kill it?" Pocahontas asked.
"Uh..." Crap. Bella didn't remember that part. And she didn't have time to think. The hydra's tail was swinging towards her.
"Bella, look out!" Pocahontas pushed her out of the way, barely getting her to safety. The tail hit her instead, sending her crashing into the side of a building.
"Ms. Locklear!" Bella cried. This was bad. Was she okay?
