Zelda seemed to be thinking about something, and Spike realized she was grasping for any kind of book he might like. "I'm cool with stuff that has a bit of action," he said. "The Hunger Games, The Maze Runner, Percy Jackson." Sure, it might be be anything classic or thought-provoking, but he only got philosophical after having a bit to drink or smoke. Other than that, if he was reading for pleasure, he wanted it to keep his attention. "Haven't read too many books on music, but that's what I have documentaries for. There's a lot of them on Youtube, and you'd be surprised how many are about heavy metal bands. Heck, some even have more than one."

“Dystopian futures then. It’d be in the fiction section. Of course, there’s the media section since you prefer films. But don’t forget where some of your documentaries got some of their research, “ Zelda said curtly. The trend of those books had died out for a while, but there were still people that liked them. Zelda did have a fondness for Percy Jackson. The idea of being related to a Greek deity was a fun what if game. She had a special fondness for Athena herself.

"I know, I know, it's Video Killed the Radio Star all over again," Spike replied. Video and Tv killed radio drams in the 80s, now the Internet was killing off not only TV, but physical books. Spike wondered how long it would take until they were all digital. He didn't know if he could stand it. His eyes would hurt from looking at the screen for so long.

“That or the Terminator. Just wait until robotics take over our superhero jobs.” At least with her power, she could turn them off. Or rework wiring. Faster and less risky than developing a computer virus to wipe them out. It was part of why she didn’t go on the patrol mission even though she truly wanted to. Patrols weren’t meant for people with her powers, and if they ran into trouble, all she’d be was a warm body that could only turn off an assailant’s cell phone.

"Possibly. Probably not in our lifetime though," Spike replied. "People still like the 'personal touch.'" He wondered how many people would be put out if they couldn't be superheroes anymore, and who might secretly be relieved. Spike wouldn't mind having that weight lifted from his shoulders. He could finally have a good excuse to do something else without his parents freaking out. But he knew that wasn't about to happen. He was stuck and there was nothing he could do about it.

“Yes, we have yet to have a creation that doesn’t scare the daylights out of civilians and fellow heroes.” Or if there was a robotic armor, it could easily be lifted away like a visor to show the human underneath. Some armor though didn’t look friendly. Zelda wanted that to be a project with Albedo. They had successful made that portable heater after all.

"Yeah, I don't know if I'll be able to get over any 'uncanny valley' looks," Spike replied. Granted, that was something he only saw in horror games, but it was still creepy. "Although they could be interesting Halloween decorations," he added. "You could probably make them if you felt like it." Zelda seemed pretty good in that department, she could probably make creepy looking robots for a scary party if she wanted to.

Zelda rolled her eyes. Of course he would peg her as using robotics to be “creative”. The dress she wore to the dance had been an experiment. Given all the unwanted attention she had gotten, including from Spike, everyone would want her to try and craft something. “I prefer to use my tinkering for something other than the world’s most expensive lawn ornament. I want my creations to be useful to superheroes in battle, or to at least be makeshift sidekicks to avoid casualities. We know that sidekicks take the literal beating at times.”

Zelda didn't seem too fond of that idea. Her comment about her robots helping keep superheroes and sidekicks safe one day though made Spike pause. It instantly made him wonder that if something like that had been developed sooner, maybe he wouldn't have gone through something so traumatic and wouldn't be so messed up in the head. Maybe Zelda's robots could prevent sidekicks from ending up like him. Although if he was honest, the pressure from his parents would have made him crack eventually. Him almost dying just sped up the process. "Don't I know it," he said quietly.

Zelda’s hand started shaking suddenly. Spike getting quiet was unexpected, and it made two plugs connect in her mind. Had technology hurt him in the past? Was this shy he kept bothering her? To get answers? Her trembling hand closed into a soft fist. Technology had awakened her charge power but at what cost? Link. No. He wouldn’t want her to be moping about his death. “Better to use tech for good as opposed to evil. They’re meant to be tools, not toys.” So, she was projecting. But who cared?

Zelda got quiet too and Spike couldn't tell what she was thinking. This conversation was getting kind of serious and Spike wasn't into that kind of thing. He liked to keep things light and casual. "Well, I bet if anyone tries, you'll put 'em in their place, right?" he said with a little smile.

“Because a stern talking to always stops crimes,” Zelda said hollowly. “And I’m not talking about talking to authorities or supervillains or whoever.” She could use her power however she wanted, but it wouldn’t matter. Her tampering would only last as long as Dorothea’s siren song, and every time she charged, all she’d be was a warm body.

"What, can't throw a punch to the face?" Spike teased. "Criminals will listen to that." Zelda's powers might be a little specific, and thus not applicable to every situation, but that was what Hero High was for. It taught other ways to bring criminals down without powers. Heck, a couple of the students didn't have any at all and excelled pretty well.

Zelda looked at him quizzically. Link had once made a jab similar to that when he had gotten back from a scrap against monsters and came back with a nasty gash in his arm. She had scolded him for being reckless, and that the next monster fight would leave him with more than a scratch. He had said maybe a broken fist from punching too hard. “I’d rather keep my hand healthy thank you. A good kick does leagues more than what a fist can.” She was quoting her dead boyfriend again.

"Okay, point taken," Spike conceded. "But you can keep your hands healthy if you know how to make a fist the right way." The number one people mistake people made was putting their thumb inside their fist. You wanted to keep it outside, otherwise you'd probably get a broken knuckle. "Maybe I can show you sometime," he offered.
