Spike wasn't exactly the type of guy who participated much in charities or fundraisers. But, a lot of people were going to this thing, so he wasn't about to pass up an opportunity to get social. Plus, Speedy's had great food, as long as you didn't mix beer and pizza too much. Spike was sober for once though and managed to find an empty booth before biting a large chunk out of his pizza. The place was filling up fast though and it probably wouldn't be long before he'd have to share his spot. He turned his head towards the front door, keeping an eye out for anyone coming in.

Free food was something no one could say no to. Dorothea saw it as a chance for not only a free meal, but the chance to interact with her peers outside of a school and/or performance environment. The karaoke event at Crow Bar had been a good palate cleanser, but today she was in a more sociable mood. After thanking her cashier for a slice, she scanned the booths and eyed a familiar ruffled head of hair. Spike, brooding in a corner. Dorothea smiled and made her way over. “Is this seat taken?”

Spike hadn't even seen Dorothea come in. But she showed up soon enough at this booth. "Ah, the siren returns. Help yourself," he said, gesturing to the seat in front of him. He'd seen Dorothea since the Halloween dance, but hadn't spoken to her much since then. "So, what's new with you?" he asked.

There it was, her nickname that was tossed around so much that she was considering using it as her super name. Dorothea smiled and settled across from him. The smell of the pizza filled her nose, and her stomach gurgled. “Well, I wish had gossip to report, but iMm afraid that well is a bit dry. What about you, Spike? It’s been some time.” She picked up her slice and bit into it with relish.

Spike sipped his soda before responding. "Not too much. Been getting to know a certain blonde bookworm, and a little speedy pipsqueak that gives Sonic the Hedgehog a bad name." Besides Zelda and Ruby, anyone else he hung out with was the usual crowed. That usually consisted of people who wanted him to smuggle stuff in, or people who enjoyed music and hand-to-hand combat as much as he did.

Dorothea had no idea who the speedster was, but she had a pretty good idea who the blonde bookworm was. Here she thought that the reason her neighbor was so uppity was because of stress. No, somehow Spike had gotten to her. “Oh, Zelda! I loaned her the Cinderella dress. Invited her out a few times, but she usually prefers the great indoors.”
She had even texted Zelda seeing if she had wanted to come get pizza. No reply had come since then. Dorothea figured she was too wrapped up in a book to come down. The door opened before she could ask Spike more and inclined her head to see who came in.

"Oh, so you're partly responsible for the light up dress," Spike commented. Despite his joke to Zelda about her looking like a Christmas tree, it had been pretty cool. "Yeah, I've noticed," he replied. "Stiff as a board, that one. If she puts herself under anymore pressure, she's gonna snap. I've seen it happen to smart kids more than once." While Spike had pressure from his family to be a great superhero, some kids had the high expectations of getting good grades and acing everything they tried. Regardless of whether their family pushed them or they did it to themselves, it tended to not end well.

Dorothea shrugged. “She’s not hurting anyone with her books. Well, not counting if she threw a heavy one at someone.” So Zelda liked to keep to herself. Big deal. She took another bite of pizza and dabbed her lips with a napkin. Though it was tricky to tell what was sauce and what was her lipstick.

"Wouldn't be surprised if she ended up chucking one at someone by the end of the year," Spike commented. Maybe that someone would be him. Pressing people's buttons had gotten him into trouble more than once. But that was just how he was. "So how do you know her?" he asked. "You two seem kinda different." While Zelda was introverted and serious, Dorothea seemed a lot more relaxed and outgoing. Maybe it was the whole "opposites attract" thing?

Dorothea put down her slice, smiling at Spike’s quip before answering his question. “She’s my next door neighbor in the dorms. I had my door open one day, and she asked me for a name from a show. I gave her the answer and when I asked, she said she was making some kind of code. I didn’t ask what for. We kind of just…started talking from there.” And given that Dorothea and Katara usually missed each other, it wasn’t like she could just ask a roommate that wasn’t there about certain things.

Spike shrugged. "I guess there are weirder ways of meeting people," he commented. Heck, he and Ruby met by her slamming into him as she'd been rushing down the hallway. Not even his preflexes had sensed it in time. He took another bite of his pizza, resulting in the cheese stretching out for several inches before it finally broke. "Jeez, they make this stuff gooey," he said.

Dorothea laughed. “Sometimes the ‘extra’ in ‘extra cheese’ can go a little too far.” Grabbing a plastic knife, she hacked at the hunk of cheese that had been part of Spike’s slice until it broke free from a second slice. She reached for it, but as she pulled, the cheese and toppings slid away until only half of the cheese and topping s were left, leaving a saucy tip on her slice and the remaining cheese and toppings to sit in a puddle of ooze.

"But that's why we like it," Spike said. "We certainly don't love it for its nutritional value." Junk food always felt good, for better or worse. Dorothea wasn't having much luck with her own pizza slice though, as half of the cheese fell off, taking the toppings with it. "That's the way the cookie crumbles I guess," Spike said. "Or...that's the way the cheese falls? They need to invent a saying for that."

“Ever hear the one about pizza being considered a vegetable?” Dorothea quipped as she rescued the lost cheese blanket to put on her plate. “Had I known that, I’d be persistent with my mother that yes, I am in fact eating my vegetables. Cheese is just the same as people drowning their salads in dressing.” She slurped the cheese string like it was a pasta noodle before wiping away the grease from her manicured hands.

Spike had to laugh at that. And despite Dorothea being the average feminine girl, she still slurped up pizza like it was nobody's business. Spike liked that she didn't mind getting a little messy. He'd met more than a few girls outside of school that freaked out if a nail broke or their hair got messy. It was a good thing they weren't training to be heroes, they wouldn't last a day. "I've rambled on about people I've met, what about you?" he asked.
