John pulled a flask from his jacket pocket and added a little something 'extra' to his coffee. He was not looking forward to teaching. He was still nursing a hangover from the day before... Or was it the day before that? Or from last week? Did it just lengthen if he was never sober? He didn't really stop to think it over. The alcohol helped numb everything.

Pocahontas had had a pretty productive morning so far. She'd had time to fit in a run this morning before heading to work. While it might have been exhausting for some, running was her favorite exercise. And the park in the city had some excellent trails to do it in. Walking into the teacher's lounge, she headed for the fridge to store her lunch. John was nearby, adding something to his coffee. Pocahontas frowned, having a good idea what it was. "Isn't it a little early for that?" she asked as she pushed her lunchbox to the back of the fridge.

The horchata that Jack gulped alongside his coffee was finally starting to kick in as he opened the door to the teacher's lounge. In his bony fingers, he cradled a tupperware wrapped in a boldly patterned serape. It looked like his co workers had the same idea. Or rather, Pocahontas did. She was scolding John, who had finished adding something to his coffee. From the liquid alone, Jack knew it wasn't a fancy creamer. "Should I have Ami on standby?" he asked in a low whisper. If John's BAV was high, the school risked losing a teacher.

"And here I thought people were a bit more civil about a chin wag," John sighed. "It's too bloody early for yer naggin'."
He took a deep long sip from his doctored coffee, making sure to keep eye contact with Pocohontas as he did so. He wasn't blatantly drinking in front of the kids, so he didn't see what the big deal was. He narrowed his eyes as he felt both of his coworker's judgement. Just because he was at the school, didn't mean he wanted to be there. He was there because a few of his 'friends' said 'clean up or else'.

Pocahontas frowned again. Someone definitely woke up on the wrong side of the bed this morning. Maybe John was hungover? Sometimes it was hard to tell between that and his default personality. Jack seemed to witness it to, as he whispered something to John, although she couldn't catch what it was. "You can call it nagging when I get as old as my grandmother," she replied. Part of her did kind of wish John could pull things together though. He was probably a decent guy underneath all the sarcasm. "Although if you drink anymore of that, you're going to want to follow up with some Gatorade or something," she advised. "Hydration is important, right Jack?" she asked, hoping maybe he could help her out on this.

"With all due respect, Pocahontas, I'm saving lectures for my students. But yes, something with electrolytes would be an ideal chaser." He had been to many celebrations where alcohol was involved. It was safe to say that tequila was one spirit that haunted him. He massaged his bony temple as he turned to the fridge to put his lunch away, sighing. The bell hadn't even rung and already he was wanting tequila for the end of the day. Key word being end of the day.

"Sod off both of you," John groused, "What I drink is none of your concern."
If he couldn't drink in the staff lounge, surely, he could find solace in his office. He staggered slightly when he got up. He fully intended to take his doctored coffee with him for some peace and quiet before he had to teach the little bundles of joy that thought they were cut out to be super heroes. Idiots. The lot of them.

At least Jack agreed with her. Pocahontas was willing to take what she could get at this point, although John wasn't happy with what either of them were saying. Him teetering slightly when he walked wasn't exactly inspiring confidence either. "Okay, okay, can you sit at least? You're looking a bit like the leaning tower of Pisa," she said.

"I'm not getting involved in this - I've said too much - but be my guest," Jack said to Pocahontas. John was already getting grumpy and making ready to take his leave, and Lich didn't want to continue the cycle of releasing anger when the time came for teaching. The students had enough of that on their plates in regards to adjusting powers. He wanted to keep sharp. At least while he was on the clock.

Like a petulant child, John slumped back into his seat. Dark shadows were visible beneath his eyes. His shirt was untucked. His tie hung at an odd angle, loose around his neck. He looked as if he slept in his clothes from the night before. As he sat, his coffee sloshed a little, but did not tip out of the cup.
"Not sittin' 'cause you told me to," he said.

Pocahontas sighed. This was probably the best outcome she was going to get right now. Any further comments to John about his drinking would be like poking an angry bear with a stick. That would have to be a battle for another day. Jack didn't comment on the situation any further either, preferring to back out of it quickly. Pocahontas decided to follow his lead and change the subject. "Anyone got fun plans for the weekend?" she asked, hoping that would ease some of the tension.

“I’m planning on going to a pub trivia night. Usually I play alone, but some times I wrangle people in. Every one has their smarts. The sports round killed me last week..” And they say educators couldn’t have hobbies outside of teaching and academics. Sometimes, alcohol would awaken thoughts or recollections long lost…in a good way. Or heck, a lucky guess ended up being the right answer.

John settled into his seat, staring at his mug. Aside from drinking, there was very little that John did on weekends. Though, he doubted nursing a hangover counted. Drink. Pass out. Drink some more. Shower and eat if he remembered. He had enough saved up from his more 'heroic' days to have someone come in and clean his place and do the laundry. That way he wasn't a complete slob. Microwave meals and cold cereal were his only sources of sustenance.

John didn't have much to add, but Jack mentioned a trivia night. That sounded kind of interesting. "A sports round probably would have killed me too," Pocahontas agreed. "The Superbowl is about the only thing I tune in for." She laughed a little. "My grandmother and I tried watching baseball once and I had just about as hard a time seeing the ball as she did."

Well, the tension of the lounge was eased. Cutting through it was more like softened butter than a thick piece of bread. Pocahontas brought up baseball with her grandmother, and he had one connection to it. “Did you and her see the infamous highlight of that poor dove being hit by a pitcher? Just…” He made an explosion movement of his hand and made a quiet ‘Pew’ to emphasize the impact, “it goes up into nothing but feathers! My abuelo sent it to me and my jaw hit the floor. Literally.” He tapped the edge of his mandible. Sometimes his bones just liked falling off at inconvenient times.
