Dealing with bullies wasn't new to Utena. When she was younger, she'd done more than her fair share of stepping in when Bella was being picked on. That protective streak hadn't gone away once she'd reached Hero High and while Bella usually avoided the bullies, some others weren't so lucky, and Utena found herself stepping in to defend them just like she'd done for her sister. Today was such a day, as all the girls in the locker room were trying to make themselves presentable after gym class. Utena didn't know why they felt so pressured to make sure their makeup was on right or their hair was straight. If they were trying to impress a guy, Utena felt like they should understand if they were a little disheveled from running around in the gym. Basketball had been the game of the day and Utena had pushed herself hard. It was her favorite sport and she could get competitive if egged on enough. As the other girls left, she was still stretching out her leg, making sure her joints weren't going to bother her later. She thought she was the only one left, but she looked up when she heard sniffling and crying from around the corner. And the voices that followed made her frown.
"God, you're such a crybaby. What is wrong with you?"
"Aw, does somebody need some tissues?"
"Don't bother, I bet she has them in her bra."
The voices laughed hysterically and Utena decided she'd heard enough. She rounded the corner quickly, intending to put a stop to this now.

Gym class was not Usagi's strong suit. She was a complete and total klutz, often tripping on the air. She had no coordination and often got distracted. Because of this, she was often chosen last for activities. She didn't let this get her down, though. She was always excited to be put on whichever team she ended up on and often tried to boost morale if needed. She was very much like a cheerleader, routing for the people on her team.
She had been having a relatively good day so far, but then one of the girls had yelled at her. Usagi didn't do well with raised voices, and thus the waterworks started which, of course, made the girls go in on her even worse.
"Th-there's nothing wrong with me," Usagi pouted as she wiped at her tears. Her eyebrows furrowed at the bra comment, not fully understanding the insult that was being thrown at her. "I don't... why would I have tissues in my bra?" Her naivety was often one of the reasons why people picked on her. She just didn't understand. They were laughing at her, but she didn't know why. What was so funny? Was there a joke that she missed? Should she be laughing too?

"Is there a problem?"
The girls looked over at the sound of Utena's voice. Their glares matched hers. They'd run into her before and weren't big fans of her.
"Mind your own business," one of them snapped.
"With all the noise you're making, you're kind of making it my business," Utena replied, putting herself between them and the crying girl. "And it's going to be the gym teacher's business too if you don't clear out."
Tension hung in the air as Utena saw the three girls glance at each other. They were probably weighing their options at this point. Usually, they backed down, but Utena figured it was only a matter of time before they didn't and decided to get physical. She'd seen more than one cat fight at this school.

Another voice entered and Usagi looked up through her tears. She could just slightly see someone with pink hair walk in. "Is there a problem?" She wasn't entirely sure there was a problem. She wasn't quite sure what was going on. Usagi wiped away all of her tears. "I'm sorry; I didn't mean to make so much noise," she apologized, thinking that she had also been part of the problem. She would work better to try not to cry so much. She knew it was a problem, but she didn't seem to be able to help it. She cried at the dime of a hat and no matter what she did to hold back her tears, she could not. In fact, when she tried not to cry, it usually just made it worse.

Just when Utena was about to make good on her threat, one of the girls said "Come on, let's go," and all of them cleared out. Utena sighed. She'd have to keep an eye out for those three in the future. They smelled like trouble. She looked over at the girl who'd been bullied, who was apologizing for making noise. "No, no, that wasn't aimed at you, trust me," Utena said quickly, not wanting her to feel any worse than she already was. "Are you okay?"

Usagi sniffled, watching with watery eyes as the girls left. She reached up and wiped at her nose, sniffing once more. After the girls left, Usagi's eyes moved to look at the girl who had come in. She had really pretty pink hair that looked a little familiar to her. It kind of reminded her of Bella's hair, although maybe a little darker. Usagi was a little jealous. Her favorite color was pink and she would love to have that hair color. But that was neither here nor there. She nodded at her question and replied, "Yeah, I'm okay. They just like to... mess around sometimes." She shrugged.

"Messing around is putting it lightly," Utena replied. She hadn't seen those girls get physical with anyone yet, but you never knew. Girls weren't immune to getting into fist fights like boys did. "They're just shallow, don't take anything they say to heart," she said. Demeaning words could be worse than any physical injury. "What's your name?" she asked.

Usagi nodded to what she was telling her. She tried not to take a lot of things to heart. A lot of the time, she didn't even notice when people were making fun of her. This time, though, she had gotten a little affected by it. Hence the tears. As she sniffled one more time, Usagi reached up to brush the final tears away. "My name is Usagi. What's yours?"

"Utena." Usagi seemed to be looking a little better, although Utena worried if those girls, or anyone else, was waiting to pounce again. Sometimes once wasn't enough for them. Maybe it was better to play it safe. "Where are you headed to next?" Utena asked. "I'll walk you there."

"Utena, it's nice to meet you," Usagi gave her the most genuine smile that anyone could ever produce. She was truly happy to have met her. Gathering all of her things, Usagi then told Utena, "I'm headed to lunch, actually. You don't have to walk me!" But then she paused and added, "but that would be nice, thank you." She would actually like to walk with Utena if it meant that she got to know the girl a little more.

Lunch was as good a place as any. Bella would probably be at the cafeteria by now. Maybe Utena could get the two of them together if they didn't know each other to well yet. Bella could use the extra help sometimes when it came to making friends. "That sounds good, can't go about fighting crime on an empty stomach," she joked as she got her stuff. "I think they're serving the usual pizza today though. Hopefully it's not too greasy." The cafeteria often walked the fine line between trying to serve healthy stuff, but also filling for the kids who had massive appetites.
