Namine watched from afar, nursing a hot apple cider. The warm apple and cinnamon taste wafted around her. She watched as everyone danced on the main floor, or sat nearby at the tables, happily chatting to each other. She shifted. The angel wings of her costume fluttered around her, soft, white and pillowy. She was a little chilly from the costume and wondered if she should cut her losses to head back to her room. She wrapped the wings around herself a little more to shelter her from the chill of the room.

"Well that's a sad sight to see." Claude had always loved Halloween and this year was no different. He had been very excited to see what other outfits the others would be wearing, aside from their hero costumes if they had one. His outfit was something most probably wouldn't have expected from him. A simple black vest with rolled up white sleeves underneath and black pants a tie around his neck and a fedora. It should have been obvious he was dressed as a mafia gangster but he supposed a few people wouldn't know.
He tipped his fedora hat in Namine's direction. "An angel shouldn't spend a night alone, crowds don't do it for you?"

Namine jumped, startled, she turned to see Claude. An uncertain smile crossed her features. She had hoped to find her roommate Zelda, but she hadn't wanted to cling to the other girl. Surely, she had better things to do for the night. Zelda had already gone out of her way to help her go shopping for regular clothes and then their Halloween costumes.
"I... was homeschooled since I was six." she confessed. "Being around this many people is new."

Claude nodded in thought. He had never really thought about that big of a change for anyone. School was school. Then again, Claude had never been to anything other than a regular school with other people. Homeschooling was an interesting choice but many people who discovered their child had a gift would want their child to protect them. Claude should have been grateful he was able to go to a normal school despite his Uncle's protests.
"That's such a big change for you, it must be a bit uncomfortable." he replied. "If not a bit exciting."

"It's taking some getting used to," she said. "There have been lots of good things though! I got to see the ocean for the first time. And my roommate is really nice."
Granted, it also came with the dangers of spontaneous villain attacks. But that had turned out okay too. Everyone had gotten away okay. Her drawings had helped. Still, she wasn't accustomed to large crowds. It felt so overwhelming to be around so many people at once. Or for a majority of them to be so kind. Like Claude. No one was forcing him to come over to talk to her, so she appreciated the fact he had initiated conversation. She would have been too afraid to do so herself.

"Ah, roommates can be a mixed bag," Claude replied, "Glad you got a good one, sometimes a bad roommate can really make the school experience a bad time."
His roommate and him were already off to an interesting start. It would be a rocky road to becoming good friends with him but that was part of the fun. His green eyes sparkled slightly at that thought. He wanted to know more about Namine's homeschooling and life before she discovered her gift but it didn't seem like the right part. "Have you gotten used to the city yet? It can be pretty big and overwhelming for newcomers."

"Do you not like your roommate?" Namine asked.
There was little she could do, if that were the case. She had been lucky, but she had heard a few horror stories. About roommates who were complete disasters as human beings. No one in their school, but she read stories. Though, her fictional stories might not be an accurate representation of real life. But she had no other sources of real experience. She wasn't even sure how to act like a teenager her own age, since she had never been around people her age. Well, not since she was little.
"Well, I've only seen the beach really," she said. "And a few shops."

Claude shook his head. "Oh no, not at all. He's an interesting guy,he's very study driven."
That was the best way to describe Albedo, a very studious guy. That was something Claude did admire about him, one had to be pretty dedicated to spend all his time in the books to improve their education or anything at all. Claude only dedicated himself to studies when it benefited him or interested him. Maybe it was just because he liked living life to its best and exploring every possibility.
"Well you have plenty of time to explore it all, I am still discovering secrets even today."

“My roommate has been really nice.” Namine said. “She even helped me get ready tonight.”
She gestured to the wings that were strapped to her back. They were large, fluffy and if you hadn’t known this was a costume party, they might have been considered real. There had to be some winged student around. Right? Namine had been a bit hesitant because she hadn’t wanted to give the wrong impression.
“I want to see everything this place has to offer.”

Claude's eyes green eyes scaled the outfit and smiled. "She did a good job, and the outfit suits you."
He had seen many outfits around that night, and a lot of people seemed to go all out with their costumes. Especially those that wanted to have all eyes on them. He appreciated that Namine's wasn't flashy or trying to draw attention to herself. He leaned back in his chair. "Too bad those wings aren't real, you could see the whole world that way."

"It's my first Halloween in years," Namine admitted.
She was being rather openly candid with him. She hadn't been this open with anyone save her roommate Zelda. But Claude seemed nice. Now she was regretting not drawing her evening to see where it was going to go. She insisted on going in blind so she could enjoy it for everything it was.
"I'm not sure I'd want them to be real. I'm afraid of heights. It puts a damper on flying," she said with a small smile.

"Honestly I can say the same. I haven't had a big Halloween in quite awhile." he gave a soft smile. Halloween had always been his favorite time of year, it was something that made him don a disguise that wasn't in ties with his family or hero time.
He wasn't surprised that she was afraid of heights. He knew quite a few people back in his old school that were terrified of heights. He couldn't really experience that, the idea of flying and sailing away was always a dream. Maybe it was just because it was something that he had considered as a power he could have gotten.
"Nothing wrong with being afraid of heights, it just means that if you had gotten the gift of flight it could have been a very interesting time."

"I suppose that is one way to look at it."
If she did have flying powers, she would have to eventually get over the fear. Or perhaps she never would have had the fear to begin with. Really, with flying, she supposed the biggest fear that lay in it, was falling from such a height. If she could fly, she would just catch herself before she hit the ground.
"Are... Are you settling into classes okay?"
