Oh dear. Zelda crossed her hands behind her back, and closed her left hand into a firm fist. While she liked talking technology in regards to how her powers worked, the one thing she despised was when people figured that they could use her as a guinea pig for their own abilities. She said nothing as her acquaintance paced around the room, muttering to himself.

"I could... no... But there's always... Artificial intelligence in nanobots?"
The thing was, without his father, there was no cap on what he could or could not invent. No moral compass telling him how far was too far. A million science fiction movies could tell him why artificial intelligence was a bad idea but with a power like Zelda's that was limited by the capabilities of the technology around her, he couldn't help but wish to improve it. Testing it without her would be difficult though. Unless he had a way to control them himself. But then that wouldn't be very artificially intelligent. Perhaps obedient nanobots was more what he was looking for, programmed to take whatever commands given to it?

“Artificial intelligence has the conversational skills of a teaspoon. At least the one time I spoke to an Echo. It was so strange to suddenly have full talks as opposed to simple commands.”
Needless to say the conversation didn’t last long. All the device did was go on a laundry list of commands that it had to do, including a long playlist of songs it as been requested to play. That part has started out interesting before growing tiresome quickly. Zelda should have known eventually her powers would lead to that.

"The thing with Nanobots is that they're built on a near microscopic level. But... if we build them larger and then make them smaller, they might be capable of more than childish behaviors."
But that was making a project much bigger than it necessarily needed to be. He would also have to make a shrink ray that would also be able to reverse the effects if he had to go about repairs. Then there was no telling if the whole thing would be able to shrink. The whole thing seemed very fascinating and he was eager to go about trying this.

Build them larger but then shrink them down again? Zelda was confused. What exactly did he mean by that? If he was talking physically shrinking, then yes, that was a high possibility. Nanobots were designed to be microsopic for a reason. If they increased the size, the technology would be unstable. Unless he had a plan to keep that from happening. Bit by bit, she began to follow his train of thought.
"Perhaps if we were able to develop a technology that could be condensed to the microsopic level. It would save time and money from simply shrinking the machines down again."

"Right... And the whole point of building them that small is to save on resources anyways," he murmured. "But what if we coupled your powers with a device to enhance your control over said microbots? Like a headset for the hands free functionality."
Build enough of them and the microbots could act not only as an extension of her powers, but as defense. Sacrifice a few to take the hits because she certainly didn't look like a heavy hitter when it came to powers. Because the bots were so small, it would help her in daily tasks too, as a hero. Espionage. Sneaking into small places. Hacking things for her. The uses were unlimited.

“What about wireless connections? I know with my knack to talk to AI, it seems pointless, but my experience chatting with wireless connections has been much more successful. I can charm an internet connection into rebooting, for example.” She looked over to her Slate and held it up to him. “I created this from a broken game system. I installed a scanner from a junk heap, and with my powers, it can scan and show me how it wires and works. You’re welcome to borrow it if you want to follow through on your nanobots.”

"May I take a look at that?" he inquired, looking at her tablet.
He likely wouldn't take her up on the offer to borrow it - not when it could inspire him to make his own - but the idea that she had made it out of something pre-existing was a rather interesting notion. He told himself he wouldn't take it from her unless she let him look at it. His father would be proud that he remembered his manners enough to ask permission rather than just take it from her.

“I can show you a picture of the schematics, if you like.”
She picked up the tablet and made a few taps on the screen. Her photos were full of storage, but she ignored the complaints of purchasing more storage. Why waste precious money if you were going to not use the rest? She scrolled through the photos. To say her photo library was inconsistent was polite. Shots of nature. A few rough sketches of some of her designs. A few family affairs. Then she found her sketch design of the tablet and gave it to her acquaintance.
“This is touch screen, so don’t feel bad about smudging.”

"You made this?" he asked in a reverent tone. "This is brilliant."
Coming from Albedo, it was not a comment to be made lightly. He looked over the schematics with a sharp eye for detail. He had never seen anything quite so advanced. Even a regular tablet seemed obsolete compared to what he held in his hands even as he scrolled over what she was letting him see. The thought that someone else was on an even footing with him was exhilarating.

“Um…yes.”
Zelda’s cheeks started to burn, and they took on a pink hue. She was used to being praised for her grades or her ability to understand machines from a wiring or fuel standpoint. Her tinkering, however, was not something many people commented on. At least, not positively. Her father always frowned whenever she showed off a new device she created, or worse, confiscated it so she wouldn’t be “distracted”.

Albedo, even with all of his intellect, couldn't find a way to improve upon her design mechanically. And it was rather simple to see what it was capable of. Still, this was leaps and bounds above even half of the technology the lab had. It made his fingers itch to try to make his own, but make it his instead. Like hers but different. He couldn't do that though, not without twisting what she already made. As if he didn't respect her capabilities. Instead, he took a deep breath and handed it back.
"What inspired you to make that?" he asked.

Zelda accepted the device from Albedo and set it down safely onto an unoccupied desk. The real answer had been spite. Her father had taken a machine from her. Again. In retaliation, she went through her belongings he had bought for her and tampered with them. In the end, she had torn apart all the luxury technology he bought for her, covered by little white lies that it broke and parts would take a while to ship to the city. So, she went to her second story, which was also the truth.
“Boredom mostly. That and I was tired of carrying three electronic devices all at once, so I figured, why not combine them into one.”

"Hmm... yes," Albedo agreed, as if that were a typical response to having to carry multiple devices, "It is annoying how capitalism triumphs over true convenience."
Companies made more money when you had to buy multiple products. Or made subpar products like phones with fragile screens, so you had to buy a case. Or selling the cables separately so you had to purchase that on top of what you already spent. Or games that made you purchase DLCs in order to experience the story in full. All annoyances.

Her father wasn't hear to scold her about insulting any of his "business partners", so Zelda was ready to make due in responding to the scalding criticism that this newcomer had brought up. She had given her name after all, why hadn't he? But it didn't matter now What mattered was she could finally expression her frustration with corporate greed and not be scolded for it because saying the honest truth would be "an insult to the family."
"Not to mention the companies will deliberately make machines faulty as a means of giving their partners profit. That's why ice cream machines as the fast food joints are always 'broken'. It's so that they can pay the partner to repair it, when it's just a simple part that can be tweaked."
