"How hard do you think it would be to make a self cleaning machine?" Albedo asked.
At the mention of the ice cream machine example, he began to wonder if he couldn't make a self cleaning machine. Surely, the school implemented the same ice cream machines that she was talking about. And wasn't there a burger joint nearby. He wouldn't want a broken ice cream machine or one that was improperly cleaned. If the machine was self cleaning and easily repairable by even the simplest of minds, then he would never have to worry about broken machines or germs (from ice cream).

“I suppose it wouldn’t be too difficult. There are the small self cleaning machines after all.”
If bigger machines with self cleaning purposes could be installed in establishments, it could stop outbreaks of nasty diseases and save time and money on making shoddy deals with other jobs. Green fuel becoming popular was also a safe way to avoid contaminating food with something disgusting. Hot fudge sundae with a side of oil? Only a robot would eat that.

"But I'd need to get my hands on one of the non-cleaning ones..." Albedo muttered.
He walked, as if to a daze to the whiteboard. After finding a dry erase marker, he began to write out the formula he believed would help in programming such a machine. No one was just going to hand over a machine to him for him to dismantle and toy around with. He may, very well, have to start from the ground up. it would just be better if he had a base to go off of, saving him so much time and effort in the long run. But he would also need the ingredients for ice cream. And to explain to his new roommate why there was a dismantled ice cream machine in his dorm room.

“Surely there was one at a scrapyard you could buy as opposed to just starting from the ground up…”
But Zelda stopped her suggestion as she saw her acquaintance walk to the whiteboard. All good. Whiteboards, in her opinion, were superior to chalkboards. The cliche of the noise, and oh, the mess of chalk dust. Everyone forgot about the mess. He was scribbling a series of equations, and all she did was stay quiet so that he could focus. She read the formula, all while applying the logic of reusing a machine that could have been thrown out due to a dead wire. Enough tinkering could get it working once more, and then apply his complete work, then a prototype would be cheaper. If this school had a science fair, this could be a project worth trying.

"Thank you," he said.
The words were foreign on his tongue. Seldom did he thank someone so it felt weird to him. He would check the local scrap yard for one, and the local businesses if he had to (especially if someone was considering upgrading theirs). But money was another thing he would have to figure out. His father wasn't exactly rich, but with his intellect, he figured he could win the money in cards if he had to. It wasn't hard to count cards. Not with his mind and he was spectacular with odds.
"I needed a new project."

Zelda blushed furiously. She was used to thanks for people who needed help with homework assignments. This entire equation and muse for a new project brought on by her was something entirely different. “No trouble, really…” She stopped. In all the discussion of wires and machinery, something as simple as a basic introduction went right over her head. “I…I don’t think I ever got your name.” How else was she going to address someone and see how his experiments were going when she didn’t even know his name? Stupid

"Oh... I never gave it. I'm Albedo."
He hadn't even thought to give his name. He supposed, in a way, he was used to people already knowing him because he excelled academically. They did at his old schools. He would have to make sure to give his name from now on. Which was also another weird thing for him. He looked up from his formula to look over at her. He would have to remember her name too. She was an endless resource of ideas it seemed. The tablet she made, the self cleaning ice cream machine, and who knew what else she could inspire?

“I..introduced myself earlier but you were absorbed in project hunting. I’m Zelda.”
Now a part of her felt bad for being snippy with him earlier. He had been thinking of his own scientific prowess. But she could take some pride in knowing that perhaps mechanics was the way in getting to know him. Albedo and her seemed to be cut from the same cloth, and it gave her comfort there was someone in the school besides Namine that she could talk to.

"Zelda," he said. "I'll remember that."
And he would. He felt as if their conversation had been quite fruitful. His father would be at least happy that Albedo hadn't resorted to creating artificial intelligence just to have someone to talk to. For better or worse, Zelda was now his science partner for any future soundboards for projects.
