Namine had never been to the beach before. But she had a drawing of herself, standing on a shore, with the sun setting, a sketch pad under her arm, dated six months prior to the exact moment she was doing that. She smiled and tucked some hair behind her ear. It was still a little bit overwhelming to know she now had this freedom to go where she wanted, do what she wanted, and just not have to listen to her uncle. No one could abuse her powers anymore. She closed her eyes in bliss, feeling the water lap against her toes.

Bella loved the beach, although since she had gotten older, there was a bit of bitter sweetness to it too. Her and Utena's dad had taken them down here many times. There were a lot of fond memories made here: always staying in this cute little retro hotel right by the shore, eating tons of pizza and ice cream, going out to the beach at night to look for crabs. But ever since their dad had ditched them, there was a bit of sadness with those memories. Bella had moved on from everything a bit more than her sister had. Utena had been so close with their dad. But she tried not to think about that. Right now, the sun was out, the beach wasn't too crowded, and there was a breeze blowing. Unfortunately, it blew a little too hard, and before Bella could grab it, her sunhat got blown away. "Oh crap!" she cried, taking off running after it.

Namine opened her eyes when she heard someone call out. She turned to see a woman chasing her wind tumbling hat towards her. She took two steps to the left and the hat blew right up against her legs, effectively stopping it in its runaway trajectory. She bent over to pick it up, brushing the sand off the best she could with her sketch pad tucked underneath her arm. With a serene smile, she held out the hat to the woman.
"I think this is yours," she said.

Bella breathed a sigh of relief. Someone caught her hat, a girl. "Oh, thanks," she said, catching her breath as she reached for her hat. "Darn thing. It always ends up blowing away." She gave a little laugh, although she hoped she hadn't interrupted the girl from what she was doing, whatever that might be.

"You might want to consider getting a ribbon to tie under your chin. Or perhaps a hat pin?" Namine suggested.
While hat pins were out of fashion, they did make for a lovely adornment. And they could have so many pretty additions to them. Like blown glass flowers. Or gems of many colors. Still, if you wished to wear wide brimmed hat, you must learn to either keep a hand on the brim or to figure out ways to keep it upon your head.

"A pin would be nice," Bella said. Maybe she could find one in a gift shop nearby. Or there was always the Internet. You could practically get anything on there. She was about to leave, but the sketchbook nearby caught her eye and she couldn't help but ask "Oh, is that yours? Are you an artist?" She suddenly froze, feeling like she'd just blurted that out a little suddenly. "Uh, sorry," she muttered, her eyes dropping to her feet.

"Well, yes and no," Namine said, "I have an ability that allows me to see the future through my drawings."
She smiled before finding one she deemed safe. One of her at a cafe. She knew that tomorrow she would go there and request one of their lattes and she would be amused to find that the barista had done one of the fancy latte arts. And it would be a delicious latte. She was already looking forward to it.

"Whoa..." Bella was impressed. She'd never heard of something like that before. Sure, seeing into the future was common enough, but seeing it through drawings was kind of unique in her mind. "I just grow plants. Which I guess is kind of difficult on a sandy place like the beach." She gave a wave of her hand, but the most she could do was make a little beach grass pop up.

"I'm afraid I don't know of many plants that thrive on a beach," Namine said. "This is my first time ever being at one."
She looked out at the water almost longingly. She would love to swim but she had never learned how. That seemed like a rather important thing to know how to do before you dove headfirst. But she had enjoyed what she had been able to do so far. The feel of the sand between her toes, the water against her ankles, the smell of the breeze on the air... All thing she hadn't been able to experience under her uncle's thumb.
"My name is Namine, by the way," she added, "What's yours?"

"Not many do. Too hot and too windy," Bella said. The tallest thing that grew close to the ocean were palm trees. Anything else that grew close by was either grass on the sand or sea weed in the water. The girl commented that this was her first time at the beach and it made Bella look up. "Really? Well, I guess you've picked a good first one to visit. I really like it. It's so relaxing and there's fun stuff to do in town too." Bella couldn't resist the tacky little gift shops for tourists and the food was always good to. The girl introduced herself as Namine. "Oh, I'm Bella. Nice to meet you," she replied.

"Well, it helps that I saw it was a nice day," Namine said.
The drawing she had made of herself had been all too tempting to miss out on. Perhaps in knowing it would be nice, she had just made a self-fulfilling prophecy? It was a complicated sort of thing. Visions were complicated. She was still happy to be out and about either way. Not cooped up in some room, drawing for someone else's sake.
"What made you decide to come out today?" she asked.

True, the beach wasn't nearly as fun when it was cloudy or rainy. It looked like Bella and Namine had lucked out on that front. "Oh, just looking for a break I guess," Bella replied. "I'm at Hero High and I feel like this is one of the best place to relax after going hard at classes all week. Here or the woods near Metroville Park." That place could be fun no matter what the weather. The leaves always turned into pretty reds and yellows once it got cooler, and the trees provided enough cover if it wasn't raining terribly hard.

"I just started attending," Namine said.
She looked back towards the city, where the school sat amidst everything. A new chapter to her life. It was a little strange to think of it as home, but it was her home. More of a home than her uncle's house anyways. There, she was confined to a single room, where everything was white, stark and sterile. The only color she had been allowed was whatever pen that her uncle tossed at her before demanding she draw sporting events or card games. Things he could bet on and win. The beach had been her first wish to see. A park sounded amazing. Lush, green, vibrant with flowers.
"What is the park like? I haven't been there yet," she inquired.

"Oh, really? That's cool." Bella made a mental note to keep an eye out for Namine the next time she was walking around campus. It felt like there were a lot of new students this year, Bella had a hard time keeping track of all the new faces. Namine asked about the park and Bella's face lit up, excited to talk about one of her favorite places. "Oh, it's beautiful. The trees are so big and tall and there's all different kinds. And if you keep an eye out, there are interesting mushrooms growing near the path. And once you get far enough in, it's so quiet and peaceful and all you can hear are the birds singing." Bella never felt nervous or self-conscious in the forest, not like at school where she felt like all eyes were on her anytime she did something stupid or embarrassing. She could just be herself there.

A soft sigh of longing left Namine before she could stop herself. It sounded so peaceful and just generally lovely.
"I'll have to go take a look sometime," she decided. "Are there any paths you recommend? Or days when it might be less crowded?"
She did love going to new places, but she was still getting used to being around so many people. It could be overwhelming sometimes. She figured the only reason the beach wasn't crowded at the moment was because it was the first week of school. Some people were still moving in. Others had just started classes.
