It was offical Maria was hopelessly lost. Though she supposed it was her own fault, everything was so big and different that she had spent so much time looking at all the sights rather than actually looking at the map she had crudely drawn to figure out the school. Now she was turned around and confused. At least she was in a nice place to relax, she looked at the map again as she sat down on the bench.
"Let's see..um, there was the administration building there so if I go right from there...I'll end up...." she muttered trying to figure out what exactly she had just drawn. Now all it looked like was just scribbles. Her brow furrowed as she placed the map down on her lap and looked around. It really was beautiful here

Ah, such a lovely day. A few clouds in the sky, but not dark enough to forebode the chance of rain. Unless a weather student got upset or decided to pull a joke. Dorothea was humming to her Broadway playlist as she strolled along he grounds. One ear was free from her buds incase people came by. Her dusky pink low top sneakers, which she saved for her walks, came to a stop when someone caught her eye. The little blonde girl sitting on the bench looked confused. Was she a student? A civilian in need? She paused her playist. Hadestown could wait.
"Um, excuse me. Are you lost, sweetheart?"

Her confusion turned to relief as a beautiful young woman came up to her. She was not expecting to meet someone so fast though, she shouldn't have been surprised, it was a school after all. Her thoughts were racing a bit with nerves, how dumb did she look to be lost on the first day? 'It's okay Maria, she's not going to bite your head off.' the voice in her head gave her a bit of a sense of calming.
"Oh, yes, I am afraid I am. I was trying to find the dorms." Maria said, blushing a bit. "I am afraid that the map I drew was not really as good as I thought it would be." She pushed a blonde strand behind her ear.

Dorothea tapped her lip as she came to look over at the map. If it could even be called a map. The series of boxes and scribbles made look more like Impressionist artwork drawn on a recycled chessboard. She looked up from the map to the path where she had come from. She remembered leaving the dorms to go to the cafeteria to fuel up her walk…but that would only get the girl even more confused. “I think down that path,” she pointed the direction she came, “and if you make a right at that light post, you’ll be going in the right direction.”

Maria glanced up at the light post that the young woman had indicated. "Ah, I see thank you." At least that was something. She didn't really have a lot of stuff to take to the dorms but she did want to get there in one piece. "Ah, I am sorry I forgot to introduce myself, my name is Maria Campbell but um, you can just call me Maria."
She stood up and gave a small bow. It was a bit old fashioned but Maria always thought that bowing felt more polite as a thank you than a simple handshake

"Oh, it was no problem at all. You can call me Dorothea." She said nothing about Maria's incredibly posh bow. That was something usually reserved for curtain calls or when greeting someone like a queen. She herself had played royalty on stage many times, but when she was in the streets, she preferred the theatrics to be more in keeping as an inside joke.

"It is nice to meet you Dorothea." Maria smiled happily, relieved that this was going well. She had been really worried that other people here would be cold and brush her off but not the brunette. The other girl must be here to become a hero too, was that something that was possible? Did she have a gift to? It wouldn't be nice though to ask right off about that.
"I hope I didn't catch you at a bad time."

"Oh, no, it's not all trouble at all. I was just going for a walk, take advantage of how nice of a day it is." She looked upward to the cloudless sky, a serene smile crossing her face. Maria was lucky that everything was peaceful for now. No one was "letting it go", or if they were, it was behind closed doors. "Are you a student here?"

Maria nodded, "Yes, I am still getting used to everything here." That was a big understatement. Her father should have given her more of a layout on how things worked in town and at the school, but he still hadn't wanted her to come at all. It had taken a lot of persuading to get him to let her come here at all. "I hadn't realized this place was so big."

"Yes, it is a pretty big campus. The other buildings can be a bit disorienting, too. The only places I really know by heart are the auditorium and the cafeteria." Dorothea had taken a picture of the map given to them with her phone, and she quickly swiped it. In her haste, the headphone jack popped loose, bursting forth the notes of her musical theatre playlist. Of course, she hadn't noticed. What she gathered was just the picture of the map to show to Maria. "Maybe this will help fill in those gaps? I recycled the physical copy, but I kept this."

"Oh, yes, this is perfect thank you." she nodded, looking at the phone with a new found pleasure as she took her badly drawn map and filling in what was labeled on the phone.
This would come in big help. She had a phone of course, her father reluctantly given in to Maria's reasoning of it helping her, the only condition was that she text or call him every night to give updates. As she drew, she failed to notice her feet tapping to the beat of the music blaring from Dorothea's earbuds. Maria loved music and while she knew of Musicals, the blonde didn't recognize the one that was certainly causing her feet to tap. "What musical is this from?" she asked, "it is from a musical right?"

“Hm?” Dorothea stole a look to her phone. Sure enough, the playlist was blasting loudly. The good news was no one else was near her and Maria to make it out. Oops. She hunted for the jack to plug the headphones back in, but not before registering what was playing so she could answer Maria’s question. Oh the irony. Her playlist had added the new version of ‘A Whole New World’ from the recently staged Aladdin. “Oh, it’s from the new Aladdin show they just put on Broadway.”

Her eyes lit up like a child. "Ohh, I love the Aladdin story, it was my favorite movie as a kid." She often had begged her dad to watch it with her almost every day. She had dreamed of being like Jasmine and exploring the world on a magic carpet, having a pet tiger and a genie friend. It had been one of the dreams she had spent many days on even when she got older. She had heard a few Broadway musicals while surfing the web but probably not as much as Dorothea.
"Not a lot of people like Broadway versions of songs, at least not compared to the original." she frowned. "I like the different takes on them though."

“So do I. I do think some versions are superior, but I’m always open to hearing different covers.”
She tucked her phone back into her pocket, wrapping the earbuds tight to avoid another accidental unplugging. Looking at a phone during a verbal conversation was simply just rude. The last thing Dorothea wanted was to come off as such.

"You must really like the theater if you have heard different covers before." Maria pushed a piece of hair out of her face. The only real broadway songs she had heard were Bonnie and Clyde, Lion King and a few songs from Frozen. "What's your favorite?"
