Ruby grinned as she swayed in the mass of students on the dance floor. She didn't know who she was dancing with at any given moment, but she knew, she was living her best life. The air was practically electric with everyone's energy. These were the sorts of scenes she lived for. She had decided to dress as Little Red Riding Hood. Her cloak fluttered behind her in a way that just sort of felt right. She would beg and plead to keep that as part of her costumes despite the costume designers 'No Capes' rule.

Ten minutes of meditation had become boredom, so Riku finally caved and went to the party. Halloween was a time when his powers could be unpredictable, given shadows were enhanced by the darkness. He had gone simple with silver wolf ears and gloves resembling paws. With his silver hair, it blended perfectly. A good crowd was on the floor, and he figured he might as well dance the jitters out. Besides, it showed his fun side. That was until he just barely missed a cape with his foot. “Whoops, my bad,” he called out over the music,

Ruby turned to see who had bumped into her. Shock lit her features then delight once she gave Riku a once over. She quickly latched onto his arm, fumbling at her belt for her phone. Sure, Red Riding Hood was a bit cliche. Some people overdid it with the sultry part when it was a childhood story to tell kids to listen to their elders - stay on the path - and be wary of strangers and dangerous situations in which things seem off - like your granny suddenly having ears, tails and a wolf's snout. Hers was tame in comparison. Very much on the wholesome level.
"The big bad wolf!" she squealed in glee. "Can we get a picture, please?"

Well lo and behold, he had nearly tripped a Red Riding Hood. A little red that didn’t even go the cliched extra mile. Rather than be flirty or overly in character, she instead hugged him like he was some theme park mascot. She reached for her phone and asked for a picture. Hey, best to have highlights of the party.
“Sure!”
Now how did he want to go about it? He didn’t know her really. So, he settled with a simple look up with a casual grin. No need to be a creep

Ruby leaned in close, smiling bright. Three flashes later (in case one of them blinked) the picture was taken. She turned the phone around to approve the picture and nodded in approval. The picture turned out great. She was just so happy that she had run into a werewolf of sorts. Or at least wolf boy. The guy really pulled the look off too. She could almost have sworn that the wolf ears were real.
"Thanks so much! I'm Ruby! What's your name?" she asked.

Ruby reminded him a bit of Caspar. At least on the friendly front. He had no idea what her powers were outside of being a party animal. Kind of nice running into a fellow extrovert though, since most of the kids preferred to stick to the sidelines. He stole a glance at their photo before following on his introduction.
“Riku. Nice to meet you.”

"Are you having fun, Riku?" Ruby asked.
If he said no, she would make it her mission to make sure he did have fun. Because it was a party! People had to have fun at parties. She was game for just about anything the party held in store, if that meant more dancing or just being polite company for Riku. She hadn't come with anyone so her evening was completely open and the night was young!

“I mean I came here to have fun, and so far, so good.”
He left out the part that he was literally holding back shadows. If he did, they’d give a new meaning to “party pooper.” Though, he supposed, two little shadow tricks wouldn’t hurt so bad. He had better control as opposed to three years ago when the darkness almost dragged him down. Fun was his distraction, his release. Similar to sports in a way.

"Want to dance with me?" Ruby asked.
Not like she had anyone else around to ask. Might as well as make friends, in her book. he just wanted to hang out, have fun, dance and make friends. Plus, Riku seemed really nice. Actually, loads of people at the school had been nice, but she didn't see any of them in the crowd. She also didn't want to be that wet blanket that clung to them for safety and support.

“Don’t worry, Red, I’ll keep my paws above the waist,” he held up his clawed gloves with a mischievous smile. “I don’t want to be kicked out for “improper conduct. Not when I just got here.”
Thankfully this wasn’t one of those parties that required fancy slow dancing. Besides, he didn’t believe in all that love at first sight fluff. Some people did, but he wasn’t amongst them. The music kicked in and he recognized the beat. It was the hot dance craze song, and he stepped into the floor. “Not like I can lead this alone!” he called out to Ruby.

Ruby followed him back onto the dancefloor. She could practically feel the music vibrate inside her entire being. And she would probably be shouting later because her ears would be ringing from the bass, but she was living for it. She joined him and began to sway and shimmy, moving to the beat with no real rhyme or reason to her movements. Still, a bright beaming smile was plastered to her face.

Not every day that a big bad wolf and Little Red Riding Hood led the kids in the hot dance craze, but Riku was pretty relieved to have an outlet. His powers weren’t acting up, and that was all that mattered. The dance ended, and he held up a paw to give Ruby a high five. “This better be in the yearbook.”

Ruby gave him a high five in return. Only at a Halloween party would villains and heroes be getting along. In the more literature sense of things. Riku seemed freaking awesome. Not a lot of people would have humored her request. At least, she was pretty sure the only person who would have was Spike. And he would have teased the hell out of her for it.
"Oh man! It better!" she cried.

The echo of the connected high five was loud and clear. Even with the fake paws, he could feel the slight sting that faded away a few seconds later. That was the sound of a good high five. Too gentle and there would be no sign that they were both having a good time. Too hard and they'd go to the nurse's office complaining about red palms and blaming one another for who had it harder. Ruby chimed in her joy of their big dance hopefully getting in the yearbook.
"Have it sit next to those academic achievements. Not everyone's invested in book studying or being too fixated on being superheroes and all that. We can have fun, too."

"Yes! Oh my gosh, if I hear one more lecture about being serious... I'll scream!" she cried.
Her family - her uncle withstanding - were rather cheery heroes. Her sister was known for cracking jokes. Her father was always there to help no matter what. Her mom had been the baker of cookies and slayer of monsters. But a lot of people treated the business like it was as serious as going to court. Or that every little thing they did (even as minor as stopping a bank robbery) was as serious as saving the world.
