Well that was kind of insightful. Still kind of on the positive side though. Spike felt like he was stuck, not able to do anything to change what was in his glass. But Ruby seemed to have more hope about that. "You sure you don't read philosophy or something along with those comic books?" he teased.

Ruby stuck out her tongue. "No way! Too boring!"
She wasn't exactly the studious type. She would, if she absolutely had to, and she would, as a student at this academy. Especially if she wanted to become a hero that she wanted to be. But her optimism came from the fact she felt that she had complete and absolute control over her own fate. Everything she did, for better or for worse, wasn't something she would regret.
"I just think it's silly to determine things in a glass."

Spike laughed. "Okay, okay, whatever you say," he said. He couldn't help it, getting a rise out of people was just one of his quirks. Although Ruby didn't seem like the type to get seriously angry unless a lot of her buttons were pushed. People had said more than once that the line Spike treaded between playful teasing and being outright rude was going to land him in hot water one day. In his opinion though, being honest about things people didn't want to hear got him into trouble more often.

"What do you do for fun then?" Ruby asked.
She had talked about her passion - comics. It was only fair that she got to learn something new about this guy. She liked learning about others. She was simply curious to know how he was the way he was. He seemed nice enough. She was lucky with how friendly everyone had been at the school so far. She was also lucky she hadn't stepped on anyone's toes. She knew that her 'shining optimism' could be a bit too daunting.

Depending on who asked that question, Spike usually answered differently. In some cases, "partying" was what he sometimes replied with. But that probably wasn't the kind of answer Ruby was looking for. She didn't exactly look like she was into that type of thing anyway. "Music, I play guitar," he answered casually. "Classic rock, old school metal, that's my favorite. Maybe there are some new things I like, but nothing that sounds like it's gone through auto tune ten times." He hated stuff like that. What was the point of making music if you were just going to have a machine do all the work?

"No way!" Ruby gasped. "That's so cool! I always wanted to play an instrument, but I'm terrible at stuff like that."
Her focus wasn't exactly one of her strongest points. She tended to flit about, just like her powers allowed her to do. Chasing the dopamine in her life. If she found she no longer enjoyed something, she tended to move on to something else relatively quickly. Granted, comics were her one true love at the moment and not something she had grown tired of. To be fair, she also had a wide spectrum of topics to read on.

Ruby responded pretty enthusiastically. Although Spike wasn't about to let it go to this head. "You might change your mind once you hear our band play. Stuff like Avenged Sevenfold or Metallica isn't the most liked thing at bars." Maybe a few people actually enjoyed it at the Crow Bar, but everyone else tended to ignore it, which they were able to do once they had a few drinks. A couple of nights, there were some who yelled at them to "cut that shit out." Spike didn't really care though, and the owner usually let them play what they wanted if they didn't cause too much trouble.

"Let me be the judge of that! When's your next show? I'll be front and center!" she told him.
She liked to try new things. Sounds like his concert was going to be one of those 'new and unusual' experiences she tended to chase after. She wasn't tied to one particular genre of music. It was more or less the message and the lyrics that got her. If she liked those, everything else tended to fall into place after that. Besides, she was pretty sure her aesthetic (At least visually) screamed punk rock.

Ruby wasn't deterred by the idea. Might as well let her come and see what it was like. Who knew, maybe she'd end up enjoying it. "Next week, on Tuesday," Spike replied. "Might not want to be too close to the front though. It gets loud." He'd joked for years that he was partially deaf from all the music he'd played, or listened to. But that was how he liked it: loud and in your face.

"I think I'm good with loud."
She had been told once or twice she was just loud in general. Her personality, her voice, all were loud. She knew that it tended to ward off those who were a bit more introverted, but she tended to try to match the vibes those people threw out. She was a little excited though, to go somewhere she could be as excited or as loud as she wanted to be - as concerts tended to be. She would have to find something comfortable to wear, but something that would fit with the aesthetic of the venue.
"I can't wait! I'll be there!" she told him.

Spike still wasn't sure if Ruby would actually like the music, but it was a bit nice to get some enthusiasm. Kids these days didn't seem to be a big fan of heavy metal, and they thought classic rock was for old people. "Whatever you say kid, whatever you say," he said, although it was with a smile.

"Hey! I'm not a kid!" she protested, pouting heavily.
She cast him a scathing look for even suggesting something so offensive. So what if she still liked cute things like stuffed animals or comic books. She was mature when it mattered! Like when she and Zuko took out the stone golem that attacked the downtown area. That jerk ruined her lunch! And together, she and Zuko saved a lot of people! She was already doing super hero work in her books and that was without even having a degree to do it. She had been in the right place at the right time!

Spike chuckled at Ruby's attempt at a death glare. "You sure are the height of one. I'd say, probably a half pint," he teased, holding a hand up to her head as if measuring her. Of course, Spike himself was on the tall side, although he rarely stood up straight. He was either slouched over when walking or at his desk, or bent over his guitar if he was trying to figure out some difficult chords. It would probably cause him back problems early in life, but that was the least of his worries.

"Hey! Rude!" she shouted. "We can't all be string beans like you!"
She did. She was just unfortunately short. Him pointing this out only made her pout even harder. She had been called vertically challenged by her older sister. Another hero who had graduated the school and was out in the world. She had hopes that she would get taller, but they were dashed the older she got.

"Most would call that a perk," Spike replied with a cheeky grin. "Girls love a tall guy." Not that he was at the top of the food chain when it came to getting girls, he was too unstable for a long term relationship. But partying over the years had lead to a hookup or two. Some girls had even offered to sleep with him in exchange for getting free stuff, but he wasn't about to stoop that low.
