Spike just laughed. Seeing Ruby all worked up was hilarious. "Okay, okay, I'll take your word for it," he said. It might be interesting to see the scythe in action though and how Ruby handled it. Just looking at her, nobody could probably tell that she was in a superhero school. She could probably use that to her advantage if she wanted to, catch people by surprise when they assumed she was just a helpless little girl.

"You'll see!" she mocked.
She quickly reached into her back pocket and pulled out her phone. She wondered if it was weird to ask but decided to press on anyways. The worst he could do was say no. But despite their bantering, she thought he was cool. And she did want to go to his next concert plus their promised sparring match so he could bow down to the mighty Crescent Rose.
"Let's exchange numbers! That way we can schedule that sparring match and I'll show you once and for all!"

Exchanging numbers already? What was this, a date? But the idea of sparring against Ruby was too interesting to pass up and it would break the monotony that Spike felt a lot these days. "Sure," he replied smoothly, He handed her his phone so she could put in her number and he could do the same with hers. "Guess I better hit the gym more often," he commented.

Ruby was all too pleased with herself for finding herself a new sparring partner, now that she couldn't regularly rely on her family. It made her feel a little less homesick. She had needed that. Despite the cheery and chipper way, she bounded about, even she was prone to missing home and being sad, longing for them. The way things used to be.
"Once we know what we're working with," she said, gesturing to him, "I can help with a workout routine if you don't have one."

"I probably need the help," Spike admitted. "I'm not exactly one of those jocks that are in there constantly." Spike didn't see the appeal, to be honest. All those guys seemed to do was brag about how much they could lift, and eat all this healthy crap that looked disgusting. Spike was still fit, but he was more lean and wiry than huge and strong. If any jock challenged him to an arm wrestling contest, he'd probably lose.

"Nothing wrong with that. It's why we're at school, isn't it?" Ruby asked.
She at least wanted to improve her hero capabilities. But being a hero was practically like an obligation in her family. She knew not all other families saw it the same way. There were plenty of people who had powers but were too afraid to become heroes. Nothing wrong with that. It was a huge responsibility. Not to mention a dangerous occupation.
"But we can do that later. I have lunch calling my name."

Spike looked at Ruby. She'd said that with such optimism, maybe on the borderline of naivety. Yeah, that was what a lot of kids were here for: to train and learn and become superheroes. It was what they wanted. Spike had never wanted it though, and the thought of encountering something again like his near-death experience was enough to paralyze him with fear. But there was no need to rain on Ruby's parade. He kept his thoughts to himself, and she mentioned needing to head to lunch. "Right. I'll see around then," he said. Speedy's Fast Food was calling his name, and he didn't want to miss out on a cheeseburger before heading into the rest of the day.
